We were coming into Birmingham New Street yesterday evening at 19.10 on the slightly delayed XC Edinburgh ( dep 14.08 ) - Plymouth service when I noticed a XC HST pulling out. I was just wondering are XC starting to use HSTs again ? It was painted in all the XC livery so I assume that they have brought in quite a few more. Are they being used on specific routes ?

regards,
Z

the HSTs are used on the long routes, think about it, if you are going from penzance to dundee you would want a hst because they are more comfortable and they have a buffet unlike the voyagers

Not on XC they don't the HST has a heating are for 1st class passengers but no buffet. Just the trolley for standard. The comfort level is better than a voyagers unless you don't like the Mallard seats that is. If you want to do Dundee - Penzance in reasonable comfort and don't mind a tube journey go via London. (probably cheaper as well)

For the last 3 weeks and till end of Sept an HST is booked on 1V50 08.30 Leed-Plymouth on Sunday
I think there are a few more booked ones too, but I just wanted to clarify to others that the Sunday diagrams are STC.

Totally agree!

Just because a train goes from Dundee to Penzance doesn't mean there's anyone actually doing the journey from end to end, of course - though a lot of enthusiasts seem to honestly think there's a large demand to get from Norwich/ Scarborough to Liverpool, or from Bedford to Brighton!

Not many, but some. My partner had to come back from Plymouth to Glasgow on the cheap and found XC direct cheaper than via London.

She didn't enjoy it, but she did go from one end of the journey to the other!
