Afternoon all.
Did anyone get stuck in the cross country delays between Leicester and Coleshill Parkway today due to a broken down freight train? 85 minutes delayed not a good start to the week but not XC fault. wonder how many services were affected? I was on the 0949 from Leicester
Oh well delay repay on its way, give the guard credit he was honest and updated us every 15 mins.
xc need to start to use twitter they seem to not embracer it as much it might help their communications
On the plus didn't miss my connection as i had a 1st ticket bham to London, so i got a nice sandwich, crisps etc for lunch

Thanks, not much you can do in these situations, the train was very full though and only 2 cars as it was the first off peak from lei to brum and probably one of the most convenient for those who come from further afield. *I imagine there's some short formed trains to0night or cancellations as its quite a long tripe stansted to brum, not sure if it went on an hour late today or not back towards stansted Airport

Failed freight was indeed the cause. unfortunately the rescue loco came from Lawley street. It always seems to be a shambles across there deciding where to send a rescue loco from

Out of curiosity, what more information would twitter have given you?

The guard kept you informed. Stations would have kept passengers on platforms informed. And NRE disruption page and live departures will have kept people on the net informed.

I'm not twitter user/follower so I may have missed something obvious. As mentioned above I'm just curious, not having a stab at you.

Much of this confusion is due to fragmentation. Whose train was it etc., ?

Well i'm not saying it would help for isolated incidents, such as today- but well in general for major disruption we should all try and be more communicative with Twitter it does actually help!

If it was a Freightliner, I don't see what the issue is, there is normally one loitering about at Lawley St. Unless of course there was internal nonsense over whether an Intermodal goes to rescue a Heavy Haul. If it was a DB, then the Lickey banker is normally hiding somewhere there too.

Stations would have kept passengers on platforms informed. And NRE disruption page and live departures will have kept people on the net informed.

This often doesn't happen, particularly at stations, but NRE often isn't up-to-date either. The internal communication doesn't always work and the information doesn't get to NRE or the stations.

By using twitter, or similar, the people who actually know what the problem is can pass that information directly to the people who need to know, without the layers in-between for things to go wrong.

Then the procedure of the above needs to be made more efficient and reliable. NRE and TOC websites are the official channels of communication.

If all TOCs collectively decided to Twitter then it'd be a different matter as all passengers would then know to seek info from there. But the way it stands at the moment there is no excuse for NRE not to be kept upto date with the technology we have.
