Criteria Based (Structured) Interview

Hello. My first post on this excellent forum and I'm looking for some advice please.

I recently passed my 1st stage assesments and now have my DTG & CBI (2nd stage) coming up. I have two questions:

1) Do TOC's take 1st stage assesment pass grades into consideration at the CBI stage? Reason being, I felt my tests went really well and was surprised that 50% progressed on the day. I was delighted at passing, but I was expecting less to make it through.

2) This question is for anyone with previous experience of attending a CBI. Are you able to take notes into the 1st part (written stage)? I assume this will be done in a room with the other candidates under timed conditions.

These questions are based on the assumption that I pass the DTG.

Congratulations on your 1st part pass. Is for one of the First group TOC's?

To be absolutely honest I'm a bit surprised that only 50% passed the first part (dots and TRP) as they are fairly straight forward.......

Can't help with the notes question - but at a guess I would assume not. As this would imply that you knew what the questions were before arriving - which you naturally may do - but probably not a good idea to make them aware you are...

Anyway good luck with the next stage - do you know when it is yet?

No, the Interviewer for the CBI will only be assessing you against the set criteria that the CBI is based on. You just need to show evidence in your answers that you meet the required levels that they are looking for. If you do, you'll pass, simples !. However, if you get through to a Managers interview (assuming you haven't had one already), then I'm sure that your actual scores (in all elements at the assessment stage) will be taken into consideration so that they are able to differentiate between candidates that do equally well in the interview.

I'm not able to help with your question about taking notes into the written part of the CBI I'm afraid. All I can say is that I have never heard of anyone else doing this. I also agree with the other post that if you are allowed to do this and you do, then it may count against you, as you are also actually assessed on the written part. You may therefore be marked down on the written part if you are not able to do it unaided.

Next stage is later this month.

50% passed the morning tests. Everyone who progressed to the afternoon tests passed - which to me was the surprising bit.

As you say, the pass grades being used at the Managers stage would be much more appropriate.

Just got to get through the DTG & CBI first but I'm under no illusion how difficult this will be.

You will get the standard 6 questions that they ask, dealt with an emergency, worked alone etc. and you have 20 mins (I think) to answer the questions with written answers. You then have the interview and you are interviewed on your responses.

It probably depends on the day. When I took mine there were 14 of us left out of around 43 (around 35%) to go through to the next stage. All of us who progressed to the afternoon passed that too and went on to the second day.

I'm rubbish at interviews so I was really surprised when I got offered the job after two of them. Lol!

Congratulations JB25. You must have been really pleased to say the least.

At the structured stage (written part), can you remember how many sub questions were asked for each main question? On my practice material there are two examples.
