Cripple instructions? CIFVM, CIFMC and CIWGN

Hiya all,

In the SPL column of a TOPS list you will, from time to time, see CIFVM, CIFMC or CIWGN. I believe CI stands for cripple instruction - not sure.

Does anyone know what the letters in these three codes stands for? AND what instructions they are giving?

They are always associated with a cripple code (E, L, P and J being common ones, although I have seen these cripple codes without the mystery CI codes above).

Any help would be ace.

CIFVM and CIFMC stand for cripple freight vehicle movement and freight movement controlled. WGN it's tempting to infer that it's Wagon, but I'm only guessing.

Thanks for that!! What different instructions do each give? They're often associated with cripple codes E, L, P or J.

However, those same cripple codes often appear without a cripple instruction. Why?

Specifically I've seen CIFMC with a cripple L or P or J and a CIFVM with a cripple E.
