But made two hundreds in the Ashes and scored 249 runs without being dismissed across three matches in the ODI series against India. Hardly the sign of someone who is "no longer a class bat".

Root is rated as the number 3 Test batsman in the world, and number 8 ODI batsman, so not doing too badly

A couple of stand out performances in the 3rd day in Port of Spain.
Pakistan were bowled out for 387 (Lead of 47) with Abdullah Shafique 160 Not Out and Jomel Warrican taking 6-112 off 46 overs.
W.Indies batting in the 2nd innings looked very fragile and at the close they were 6-103, so in reality are 6-60. Very impressed by Sajid Khan who took 4-32 off 12 overs, giving him 8-117 in the game. England beware!

Well today was a short day, in under 30 minutes Pakistan took the 3 wickets required to close the W.Indies 2nd innings and only conceded 13 runs, leaving them needing 74 to win.
This they quickly did losing 2 wickets in the process thereby tying the series 1-1.
The last 3 balls were amusing, Babar Azam survived a LBW appeal which was rejected 'Umpires Decision' though it would certainly have hit the stumps, then hit Jomel Warrican for consecutive 6's to win the game.
W.Indies opener Brandon King didn't take any part today after being stretchered off yesterday after hitting the ground awkwardly whilst fielding.
Pakistan's next Test starts @ Headingley in a fortnights time.

This site https://live.nvplay.com/ecb/ is far better for following a county game than cricinfo, and for one-day games often shows the DLS requirement as you go along! Also contains clips of wickets, fours and sixes if you aren't following on youtube.

Thanks, Cricinfo's really gone downhill, doesn't even show ball-by-ball on the scorecard for county games any more. While I'm here, big shout to Captain Baldy and Shetty steering us home in another thriller v Glouc!!

I do wonder if the tropical conditions in Darwin do favour Bangladesh. It is quite unusual for a test match to be played August in Australia. It is still very much the time of the winter codes in AFL and NRL.

I was thinking that it was an odd time of year for cricket in Australia.

Well I was totally unaware that Darwin hosted Test cricket. How many Tests have been played there?

This is the third.

The others were in July 2003 when Australia beat Bangladesh by an innings and 132 runs (Darren Lehmann and Steve Waugh scored centuries, and Stuart MacGill took 5 wickets in the second innings), and July 2004 when Australia beat Sri Lanka by 149 runs (Glenn McGrath took 5 wickets in the first innings and Michael Kasprowicz took 7 wickets in the second innings).

Darwin has also hosted 5 Men's ODIs, 3 Men's T20Is, 5 Women's ODIs and 1 Women's T20I. All of these have taken place in July, August or early September

That explains a lot. When I first saw the day 1 highlights on YouTube I was totally confused as to why they were playing cricket in Australia at this time of year and why the weather was as good as it was in Winter.

Fantastic run chase by Nottinghamshire against Yorkshire in the Metro Bank One Day Cup Q/F at York. Chasing a target of 274 things didn't get off to a good start, as Nottinghamshire found themselves 1-3 early on. Cracking day of Test cricket. Pakistan were bowled out for 171 with both Robinson &Tongue getting fyfers. Shafigue 61 & Iman 41 were the visitors top scores.

Because the corporates generally go on weekdays and they protect their revenue from them as much as they can

It's also because of back to back matches, so gives an extra day before the Lord's Test next week, which starts on Thursday. Otherwise I'm sure this game would have started on Thursday as well.
