So Australia win without even needing overtime on day 2. Glad I'm not Brendan McCullum who will have to unpick this mess.

Oh, and Australia scored at 7.23 runs an over in their 2nd innings. Bazball indeed and come to think of it just how bad does the bowling have to be for a team to concede at that sort of rate?

What a weird test.

Absolutely England were dreadful after lunch but until then Australia weren't exactly covering themselves with glory either. Even with the win the only Australian batsman that did anything in the 4th innings was Head (well played him).

Listening to the morning session (early hours here), Duckett and Pope had scored steadily and blunted the attack. At lunch, we were around a hundred ahead and only one down, when I went back to sleep.

Unfortunately by the time I woke up this morning, hoping to hear England at around 200 for two or three, I found instead that Australia were already batting. Not a good morning's listening from then on.

EDIT - it shouldn't annoy me but it was exactly like i said it would be in a conversation at work this week. I said England would be found wanting tactically, in technique and in temperament especially while batting. It shouldn't annoy me................

Per my recollection of what Andy Zaltzman said on TMS*, it was the first test match ever where a wicket fell before a run was scored in each of the first three innings. Zak Crawley was of course responsible for two of those three.
