They should think again, but it's developing almost into arrogance now.

The traditional new years test. He's an New South Welshmen and they seem to get away with a lot more than say a Victorian would. He really should be dropped but won't. Boland and Murphy will be made scapegoats instead.

Warner's been a flat track bully his entire career. Plays Australia well while being absolutely useless elsewhere.

I think Michael Vaughan had ir right at the end of the third day at Headingley: if England win. Bairstow's safe, if they lose he will be jettisoned. So,there he is, rather than Foakes (or Rew!) Meantime, Dan Lawrence keeps his place as spare batsman, despite his desperate run of form, apart from a century against Kent's meagre attack last week. Today at Blackpool was another single figure score even though Lancs had already dropped a chance off him. Alex Lees, on the other hand, scored his third century in as many innings, 195 at almost a run a ball.

Talking of age, I was a sprightly 11 year old in 1956 when Jim Laker returned those Test Match bowling figures of 19 for 90 at Old Trafford against Australia.

IIRC he played a couple of County matches for Yorkshire prior to the Ireland Test in June.

I was talking about the Bairstow situation with my dad last night, and it suddenly dawned on me that the reason he’s getting picked over Foakes is I think because Ben Stokes can’t bowl at the moment.

If Stokes is playing as a batsman only, then we need an extra bowler, which means someone else has to drop out of the team which means no specialist wicketkeeper

Buttler got dropped from the test team for two reasons, his batting and his keeping!! That's why Foakes was brought back. I don't think Jos has ever withdrawn from test cricket like Mooen did, but he needs to concentrate on retaining the World Cup now. If Bairstow has two bad innings at Manchester, regardless of the result, I think Foakes would get the nod for the last test at The Oval.

Dropped after 21/22 Ashes, hasn't ruled out a return if picked but white ball focus at the moment. Not playing first class for Lancs in FC at the moment, nor is Livingstone (despite test callup last Dec)

Buttler's ruled himself out in effect, while Livingstone I suspect has succumbed to all the hype surrounding his ability, when the planets align, to hit the ball further than almost everyone. The infinitely better batter Harry Brook has taken the place he might have assumed would be his and, in any case, Will Jacks with his off spin is now probably ahead of Livingstone in the test pecking order.

Financially or otherwise? Suspect he'll join Jason Roy in this new U.S. League, which may get traction with some of the IPL teams like Mumbai Indians backing it.I'd imagine he could become captain of one of the teams next year when I daresay one or two of the veterans such as Kieron Pollard might retire.

Well done Australia women. I've really enjoyed the Women's Ashes this year; good-quality cricket, close matches, and played in a marvellous spirit, which the men could learn a thing or two from.

Australia scored 282-7 from their 50 overs, with Georgia Wareham battering 26 off the final over to reach 37*. Perry scored 91 and Sutherland 50. Ecclestone the pick of the bowlers with 3-40.

England could only manage 279-7 despite an unbeaten 111 from Nat Sciver-Brunt and 60 from Beaumont. King the best Aussie bowler with 3-44.
