How many minutes away from bad light were they? Was it literally just due to not slowing down over rate enough or did they not stand a hope?

Could bowl a couple of bouncers and that might change it! Certainly would start the whole 'losing your run up' 4 or 5 times and over and moving fielders from the furthest points, e.g. swapping the guys at long leg and long off.

In the Essex v Lancashire County Championship match, that saw both sides post small-ish first innings totals and saw day 3 curtailed by the weather, Essex needed to take the last four Lancashire wickets quickly on day 4 (today), but Lancashire decided otherwise and Tom Hartley batting at number 8 produced quite a good response, after the first wicket fell, scoring 73 not out in 50 balls with 5 x 6 and 7 x 4, allowing Lancashire to declare at 351-7. Essex needing 340 to win were 6-1 after the first nine overs.

Always felt Jimmy more (or just as) effective round the wicket. Good to see him, Woakes, Broad etc in action across the counties. I expect those 3 and Robinson will be rotating around the 2 new ball spots alongside a high pace option (Wood/Archer/Stone) and spinner

He certainly has a liking for the Lancashire bowling attack, as in the Somerset second innings, he scored 118 not out, with 16 x 4.

Jimmy Anderson must have sustained an injury early in the match and did not bowl all that many overs in the first innings and did not bat nor bowl in the second stage of the drawn fixture..

According to the EWCB, he is suffering from a "mild strain to his right groin", and his fitness will be monitored before the Test match.

Let's hope that it's not serious.

I didn’t hope so until I heard this most recent news. His target competitions must now be T20WCs 2024/2026 and ODIWC 2027. That is, of course, if he doesn’t accept this multi million MI franchise deal

As one interested in unusual cricket matters, I noticed that Kent had batted first in the County Championship Division One match against Surrey and had lost nine of their first innings wickets for 196 and number 11 batsman Michael Hogan joined Joey Evison in the hope of adding a few more runs. The expected script was not followed and the last pair made a last wicket stand of 82 runs, before Hogan was dismissed:-

Our spinner Dom Bess isn't cutting the mustard as a wicket taker and his predecessor Adil Rashid, who never plays for us anymore, wouldn't do much better as he is a player who buys wickets in the one day game rather than whittling tail enders out with the red ball.

Worcestershire set 271 to win started pretty much as they did in their first innings; 1/1 and then 2/2 before "recovering" to 26/2 before a tumultuous cloudburst brought an early finish

The wicket is poor though - even on the second morning some balls lifting sharply off a good length whilst others scuttled through at shin height

You would be forgiven for thinking so....Derbyshire even contrived for snow to fall one year...there again, this was Buxton which has it's own eco climate anyway...but class and quality always prevails (from a life long, sometimes very frustrated) Lancs CCC supporter.
