It's very pleasant on a rainy winter night to drift off to sleep listening to cricket commentators saying how hot it is ... though it would be better from a neutral standpoint if the match was less one sided. However, based on my track record (see post 7408 above), South Africa will probably storm back and win .

The Indian wicket keeper / batsman Rishabh Pant is in hospital after being injured in a car crash. He apparently dozed off and lost control of his car; it flipped over twice and caught fire. He suffered injuries to his head, back and leg, and he's in hospital in a stable condition.

Despite having a poor bowling return in his comeback to the England team and the side being 2-0 down in the ODI series, Jofra Archer in the third ODI match did return a creditable bowling return of 9.1 - 1 - 40 - 6, as England salvaged some ODI pride by winning by 59 runs.

Earlier in the day, with England 14-3, Malan (118) and Buttler (131) put on an important stand of 232 runs, before Malan was dismissed.

Australia bowled out for 177 today in the first test innings against India. I was quite impressed with Marnus Labuschagne getting 49, especially considering he's never played in India before but otherwise a pretty poor showing from Australia. Carey and Smith did alright but was very poor from everyone else. You have to wonder whether David Warner really should be playing anymore considering his poor record in the sub-continent.

Australian bowling was surprisingly poor as well. Worst Cummins has bowled in his test career so far.

India though were superb, Jadeja and Ashwin are just so good. Good bowling from Shami as well. And a smashing innings from Rohit Sharma so far. Although why is KL Rahul still in the Indian team?

Will have to see what Day 2 brings.

Day 3 of the Test Match saw New Zealand bring a little respectability in their first innings, as from being 103-7, Southee with a remarkable tail-ender knock of 73 with 6 x 6 and 5 x 4 with good support from Blundell with 38 in a stand of 98, before being parted at 201-8. Broad seems to look to mop up the tail and make New Zealand follow-on.

It must be annoying to score 517 in your first innings and to declare at 286-8 in your second innings ... and still lose a four-day County Championship match.

As a Yorkshire resident and fan, so so poor. All 5 ’pacers’ bowled from 67-78mph predominantly and not much else to speak about concerning them. Well done to Bess getting an April 5-fer but Yorks really lacking variation in their attack. Shame we missed out on Olly Stone (D Gough has mentioned attempts to sign him). Overall the batting order did little wrong with a rr around 5 and good scores. A good declaration with Bazball mindset in mind but I can’t think why we’d go for bat-first wins in such situations anymore if we can’t bowl out a below average Leics team requiring 389 at 4.25 /over or something. I don’t think we have any reason to be thinking about promotion with losses like this

All very deflating as a Yorkshire supporter. I was hoping the start of the actual cricket would reignite my love for the club and the game after a winter of discontent, but it has done anything but.

Not even like injured overseas Neil Wagner would've solved the issue bowling 75mph left arm bouncers. High pace is a rarity in county cricket and batting wickets mean 20 wickets will not fall with fairly average bowlers
