Hurst was a wicketkeeper, so was unlikely to have bowled.
At least two test match cricketers have played in the qualifying rounds of the football world cup.

Something I only discovered today - Geoff Hurst played one first class cricket match for Essex CCC, against Lancashire CCC at Aigburth, Liverpool in 1962 , and amongst his team mates was Jim Laker, the first to take ten wickets in a test innings, and the only one to take nineteen wickets in any first class match. Hurst scored two noughts, but the second was not out! I've seen no mention of wickets or catches either. Would make an excellent quiz question I feel.

During the early sixties, quite a few pro footballers played cricket in the summer. Hurst's colleague, Jim Standen, had a very successful, if rather brief, career with Worcestershire, finishing top of the bowling averages one year, I believe, when they won the championship (it is etched in my memory because one of my school friends was a great Standen fan).
In Kent we had Stuart Leary and Derek Ufton (both Charlton Atheltic).

Unless Stuart Broad has an undeclared injury, why on earth is he not playing ? And if he was in the team, might England have decided to bowl first and have Australia in the position they are in now ?
