In the match when New Zealand took to the field against England, when lightning strikes of frightening power were in the match area, it was obvious that the old music-hall act of Duckworth and Lewis would soon be required to perform their act, but it is interesting to note that in the New Zealand winning match total of 52-2 from only 5.2 overs, Stuart Broad did not exactly lead by example with his bowling figures of 1-0-16-0..![]()
To be fair Duckworth Lewis does not work at all in a T20 match, as a lot of people was saying New Zealand was not 9 runs ahead of England at that stage, but saying that they should of gone off 8 balls earlier due to the lightning.
It is also noted that Stuart Broad has been fined 15% of his match fee for calling the umpires 'average' yet Faf du Plessis and Dinesh Chandimal have not been fined for a very slow over rate in the first game yesterday. Slow over rates in all 3 forms of international cricket is happening all the time, the ICC needs to address this matter by either fining the teams a certain percentage for not bowling the overs in time (with tv reviews, batsmen being out etc being taken to account) or even adding runs to the batting team for the slow over rate.
The most memorable occasion of a fielding team taking their time in the field was in Karachi in 2000, when Moin Khan (the Pakistan keeper & captain) appealed to Steve Bucknor (the umpire) 3 times for bad light in the deciding test against England, all 3 times they continued as Mr Bucknor agreed that Moin Khan took ages to set his fields and the bowlers took their time to bowl the overs and the match finished in near darkness with England winning by 6 wickets with 15 balls remaining.
