While England are struggling/getting batsmen into form ahead of the Ashes Australia are in India playing 7 ODI's with the 7th and final match tomorrow morning. In their last match India successfully chased down 350 to move into 3rd in the all time highest run chase in ODI history.

The top 5 are as follows, and can someone notice a common theme :p

Highest successful ODI run chases
438-9: South Africa v Australia, Jo'burg, 2006

362-1: India v Australia, Jaipur, 2013

351-4: India v Australia, Nagpur, 2013

350-9: NZ v Australia, Hamilton, 2007

340-5: NZ v Australia, Auckland, 2007

(Stats taken from BBC Sport website)

Western Australia Chairmans XI 451-5 declared and 168-5 declared
England 391 all out

England slumped from 331-4 (Trott 113 not out/Bell 115 retired out) to 391 all out. No tail-wagging noticeable..

Anderson did not bowl in the Western Australia Chairmans Xi second innings which was meaningless, with the match only being three days duration and the resultant draw was an obvious result.

I find 3 day games are pointless as the result is usually a draw and only 2 completed innings, but that said it is a good opportunity to either find form and/or give 'squad players' a run out

Haven't seen a lot of the India v Australia games too closely. What's the reason for the high scoring?
Flat pitches and poor bowling attacks would be my guess.

I've dipped in and out of some of the games, but frankly high-scoring one day stuff doesn't mean (to me, anyway) that they are better. Yes, the pitches were flat, bowling (from what I saw) not necessarily poor, but if nothing is happening what can you do?
My main reason for watching was to see Mitchell Johnson, many pundits are suggesting that he will be back in the Aus test team as he is bowling well in the 50 over game, and he was certainly bowling fast with more accuracy than 2010/11 (He bowls to the left, He bowls to the right etc etc), but will he have the mental toughness in the 5 day game?

Personally I thought England v South Africa in the 2009 (I think) world cup in India/Sri Lanka/Bangladesh was more exciting than the high scoring matches in the recent series (for those who can't remember England 171 South Africa 165)

Yes, I'm quite sure that you are right, but one day games don't stay long in my memory!

Further to my own question, this article on the BBC
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-india-24768367
has the following paragraph: "We must acknowledge that the two sets of bowlers have been depressingly mediocre."

Next warm up is Live on Sky in a bit.

Might watch the first hour, England to bat first. Carberry, Ballance and Tremlett all play

Cook won the toss and decided to bat first against Australia A.

After 27 overs, England have made a solid start with the score 78-0
Cook 42 not out
Carberry 33 not out

End of first day score

England 318-0 (93 overs)

Cook 154 not out (19x4)
Carberry 153 not out (2x6/22x4)

Could not have asked for a better start to the England innings than an unbeaten triple-hundred opening stand.

I remember when Australia A were as good as most countries main side. It would appear those days are long behind us!

Looking at the side and watching it last night, it seems Australia A are at least a bowler light but it could again be down to an excellent pitch (which is being used for first time this winter)

Indeed so, but that has not stopped England from registering some disastrous batting performances on certain match wickets of that type in past days.

Unfortunately the start of the second days play at Hobart saw the covers on, as heavy raln was falling and then no play at all in days two and three. At least this is a four-day match.

I know that Hobart, being in Tasmania, can be said to have a British climate at times, but rainfall for two consecutive days is not the best preparation for the England team in these warm-up matches.

Now we find that rain is still causing the fourth and final day to be delayed.

Looks now to be a doubt whether Matt Prior will be fit to keep wicket for England in the first Test Match.

It looks as if Sachin Tendulkar has played his last innings, as the West Indies look to be heading for an innings defeat. Shame he only managed 74 - obviously no sticking power, that lad.;)

Do you pick Finn who's bowling figures were 3-88, pick Rankin who was a bit more economic or Tremlett who didn't even play in this last match?

Personally, I would pick Rankin.

A remarkable batsman, and a record that will take some beating. Even more remarkable when you consider the weight of the Indian nation on his shoulders each time he went to the crease. Just watched the tribute programme on sky, he comes across as a decent chap too.

I would pick Finn (an obvious bias on my behalf as i know him  ). Rankin showed he isn't quite yet a 3rd seamer, he is at most the 4th seamer in a 5 man attack as his stamina and pace dropped quite a bit on day 1 in his 3rd + spells but it could been down to a soft, sandy outfield. Tremlett could be picked but his form is ropey at best.

Day 1 at the Woolloongabba sees Australia 273-8 at stumps after winning the toss and batting, Haddin 78* and Harris 4*. Haddin & Johnson shared a 114 run 7th wicket partnership after Australia slipped from 71-1 just before lunch to 132-6. Stuart Broad picked up 5-65, Anderson and Tremlett (picked as the 3rd seamer) picked up the other 3 wickets to fall.

I feel like England missed a chance of getting Australia out today/last night but if asked at 1135 last night after the toss was made this was the score I would of taken it

I think that Tremlett was picked ahead of Finn pretty much just because of his more economic bowling. Finn would get more wickets, but at a higher run rate and the England regime prefers to keep opponents under pressure.

It has been suggested that Ben Stokes could be playing in the 2nd Test, but it's also been suggested that Tim Bresnan could also be making a comeback.

Those comments weren't mine, but in the Media.

The wicket doesn't seem to be conducive to Spin, but will it deteriorate later in the Test match?
