England proceeded to go from 69-3 to 97-7 before finally being all out for 191 and forced to follow on.

How predictable! Ian Bell's mind was clearly on the job at hand. He's returning home to be in time to see Chardonnay give birth I gather during the next test - Andy Flower ought to tell him not to bother returning to India for the third test!!!!

At least England have now passed 100 without losing any second innings wickets yet, but India's first innings lead offers them the opportunity to "buy" wickets.

I get the feeling it's the sort of pitch where one wicket brings two. If you get in, you have to make it count - like Pujara did.

111-0 at close of play, but 191 all out is a very poor effort to say the least, Pietersen out to a left arm spinner (again) and Bell, unsurprisingly when the pressure's on, out first ball, safe to say, we've got it all to do...

The euphoria of batting without losing a wicket in the England second innings did not take very long to evaporate as Compton, Trott, Pietersen, Bell and Patel all succumbed but the rot then seemed to end there with an unbroken stand of 141 between Cook (186 not out) and Prior (84 not out) which took the total to 340-5, with an England lead of 10 runs to carry forward.

Effectively, the final day is a one innings match with England starting at 10-5, with five of their recognised batsmen out....

I wouldn't worry about our top five being out. Much like the 2009 Ashes it appears our last six are better than our top five.

Just logged on early for match news.

England 406 all out in their second innings, leaving India only needing to score 77 runs to win the first Test Match, which they duly did for the loss of only one wicket, taken by Swann.

All the media insistence on the return of Pietersen seems somewhat quietened now with his ability (?) to play the Indian spinners on such a batting track as this. His technique (?) when dismissed in the second innings was one that is very worrying.

The sooner the media and people understand that Pietersen is over rated the better we will be. Personally I would of played Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow instead of Pietersen and Ian Bell. KP cant play spin well at all and Bell is only good in English style conditions (ie Australia and New Zealand)

Also I would drop Bresnan to play Panasar so we have 2 seamers, 2 spinners and Samit Patel who is a part-time bowler in the longer format of the game and if we need to have a night watchman don't send Jimmy A out, send Stuart Broad cos if Broad sees tje day out then he can press on in the morning as he is a good batsman

But a big partnership between Pujara and Ashwin have now got India to 266/6. Pujara is now 114 n.o. Looks like normal service has been resumed.

Pujara seems to be delighted that the standard of the bowling he faces in this Test Match series will both give him some long-period batting practice and also increase his popularity amongst the home supporters. Once again, before being stumped, he had amassed another sizable score.

However, the last four wickets to fall for India only added a total of 51 runs to finish on 327 all out and when England batted, they showed a better application than of late and ended the day at 178-2. with Cook once again leading the way with 82 not out.

Just looked in at the latest Sunday GMT time of 1110.....

England proceeded to 382-5, but then lost 5 wickets cheaply are were all out for 416 (Pietersen 186, Cook 122). This gave a lead of 89 runs.

However, the decision to play two top quality spinners in this Test Match who can get their best out of the typical Indian pitches has benefited England as India are currently 117-7, with Monty Panesar taking five wickets.

Got up early on Monday morning to hear the good news....

India only progressed to 142 all out (Panesar 6-81, Swann 4-43)

England 58-0...series now level.

I got up at 0500 to listen to the end. It came quickly with Nick Compton showing he does actually have the ability to play a shot or two when the need arises. Excellent from England - about the only thing that went wrong all match was Cook losing the toss!

Anyone wanting a chuckle may like to view the score from Adelaide where Australia have somehow failed to take 6 wickets to win the Test. Francois du Plessis scored an unbeaten ton, AB de Villiers made 30odd off 220 balls in 'Brigadier Block' mode, and Kallis made about 50, leaving the tailenders just a handful of overs to negotiate. Bad day for the Aussies, and I suspect Ricky Ponting's place in the side may be questioned too.

Top stuff from England, rather surprisingly 'KP' given Man of the Match when Monty Panesar clearly deserved it:roll: Roll on the next 'Test', just one change for me, Broad out and Finn (if fit) in or Bresnan failing that

Absolutely agree, great day for England fans with the news from Mumbai and Adelaide, really enjoyed watching the Aus v SA match, especially listening to the Australian commentators, they couldn't quite believe what was happening (just like the last Ashes!) Top marks to Peter Siddle tho', he's one of those bowlers who gives it everything.

Ricky Ponting must have really questioned himself during this series, as he has just announced his retirement from Test Cricket at the end of this current series.
Like Ponting or not, a typical Aussie, a winner, Ashes Series won't be the same without him or the great side of a few years back, as long as we win though, it doesn't matter;)

Always admired Ponting as a batsman - it was always good to get him out - but not as a captain (his outburst during the last Ashes series springs to mind). I suppose that it was his misfortune to be captain of Australia when they were on decline...

Finally. It's been time for him to call an end to his career for about twelve months. That being said it's always a shame when someone of Ponting's calibre calls it a day.

South Africa currently 'panning' Australia, 195-1 in their second innings, The Aussies out for a mere 162, Ricky Ponting out for 4...shame ;)
Doesn't stop Bill Lawry, Ian Healy etc still being the most Bias commentators of all time in any sport, good job Richie Benaud is still around, being the 'daddy' of cricket commentators...legend
I won't mention 'I never played a days international cricket' Mark Nicholas...idiot

Bill Lawry is especially funny! He thinks Aus have the best pace attack in the world. Sorry mush, but I'd rather face their pop gun attack than Steyn, Morkel and Philander. And, as Michael Vaughan wittily pointed out at the time, England have 2 better pace attacks given that Finn, Tremlett, Bresnan, Shahzad, Woakes et al don't get a look in half the time!

The only current Aussie pace bowler I would let anywhere near the England team is Brett Lee. Regardless if he is getting clobbered all over the ground or he is taking wickets, he gives everything everytime.

Well, with regard to that match, it is all over. South Africa set Australia the astronomical score of 632 to win in their second innings and Australia were all out for 322, ensuring a win by 309 runs by South Africa.

In his farewell innings, Ricky Ponting was caught off Pietersen's bowling for only 8.

I think that you are getting your Pietersen's muddled up - it was Peterson! (or was that intentional?)

In what way is Brett Lee 'current'? The chap has retired! Well, apart from earning some wonga in the Big Bash and the IPL! I hope I'm not jumping the gun here, but I can't see how Australia's attack will replicate what Steyn and Morkel did in English conditions when the Ashes come round. So, the series will hinge on whether our attack can find a way of getting Clarke, Watson and Hussey out.
