The last two matches in the ODI series against South Africa now seems to have now restored some belief in the England team, after the defeat in the first match ended a good sequence of winning matches.

Has the departure of Andrew Strauss played a part in the turnaround of the England ODI team?
I think Strauss started a renaissance of our one-day fortunes while he was still captain. Aside from the ridiculous loss to Ireland, I saw signs that they were finally 'getting it' with regard to how to win in the 50 over game. Now under Alastair Cook, they seem to be a formidable unit, at home anyway!

I agree, England playing overseas can be totally different.
They never adapt to slow low pitches. I'm dreading this India tour!

England need to understand the need to set a competitive run-target when they bat first.

Just a quick note to wish Lancashire all the best in Division 2
I am still suffering from the shock of winning the County Championship last year followed by the performances of this season which have led to this state of affairs.
Too much attention has been given this season by those at the top of Lancashire CC to fighting the case in the courts (brought by a local property owner at White City) in order to be able to sell off more land to Tesco in order to fund the ground redevelopments which they hope would restore Old Trafford to a regular Test Match ground, as it was in days of yore. Not enough of a firm hand on the tiller at captaincy level and a noticeable lack of action by the management to correct this state of affairs before the season assumed the current debacle.

My posting above earlier this week seems to strike a chord with the target that England set South Africa in todays 20 over match...:roll:
Though the women dominated their game and crushed the West Indies, clinical would be the word I would use describe their performance, very very impressive. I was at both games and have to say that even with only one of the two desired results it was still a very good day. It seemed to me that the run out of Hales was to be the turning point, until then we'd be going along quite happily but our innings never really seemed to recover from that until far too late in the game. The bowling of Patel and Bopara was also pretty poor, though Finn and Swann both did a good job in difficult circumstances.
I suspect that Bopara has played his last game this series.

Charlotte Edwards again proved how valuable she is to England to open the innings and to be a rock at one end whilst others plunder runs and ended with 21 not out and helped Laura March (31..with 5 x 4's) to put on 59 for the first wicket. West Indies total was never remotely likely to give this England team any sort of a challenge.
Remember "Bill" Lawry, the Australian opening batsman who developed total defense to such an art as to cause despair to opposition new ball bowlers, then the spinners.....or am I giving my age away?..
Very much so, after the game was over there were comments along the lines of it being a shame that England didn't bat first as their innings had been so entertaining but had been cut so very short by the small target.
Perhaps a little, but I've heard of him and know of his exploits

A rather amazing personal blitzkrieg of 32 runs in only 10 balls by Jos Buttler in the final overs of the England innings seemed to devastate the motivation of South Africa, with Parnell being struck for 32 in one over.
England have now tied this series 1-1.

Myself and a few friends founded a village cricket team back in 1993. We decided to enter the league the following year after playing one summer's worth of friendlies. We started off in Division 5 and went up every season!
Sadly I only played for a couple of years before I moved away, but I enjoyed it immensely.
On a side note it was nice to see Robert Croft get a good send off the other day by taking a wicket with his last delivery.

My worry for England is while they will be better without the ego of KP they will miss the skill of KP the batman.

Hampshire win an absolute thriller against Warwickshire at Lords by the virtue of having lost fewer wickets in their innings.

I can't believe how Warwickshire's batting collapsed & that Carter couldn't hit the last ball for a single.
Wonderful game to be at, although I'm a tad sunburnt. I felt Warwickshire were always behind, and I also felt Carter was lbw the ball before the boundary from where I was sat, and perhaps the better side won. If only Blackwell could've got Woakes the strike instead of losing his castle....

Was Carter only included in the squad as it was his final appearance?
He's been bowling well in one day cricket. Not sure Keith Barker would've been any better tbh! Shame for Carter, he'd done the hard work by hitting that 4 through the covers!

Lydia Greenwood hit 64 from 45 balls to guide England to 154-3, then Danielle Hazell took 4 for 12 as West Indies were bowled out for 70.
England now have won all 4 matches in this series.

Also his bowling. He can rip a ball, the problem is he has very little control and his lines and lengths are all over the place. With careful coaching I can't see why he shouldn't be a solid 2nd spinner option which would also make the batting far stronger.
KP's biggest enemy is himself but without doubt the team is weaker without him.

Pietersen and Bopara both out. Root and Compton in with Panesar and Patel also included. No place for James Taylor.
Eoin Morgan in the test squad too. I presume that the team will be Cook, Root, Trott, Bell, Bairstow, Prior, Patel, Broad, Swann, Anderson, Monty - this assuming they want 4 front line bowlers + Patel to bowl a bit and score a few runs.

Quite pleased that the ECB have picked Joe Root to open & he can bowl some off-spin, which will be quite useful.

Not yet. But, interesingly, Aggers says that KP said to him that he has a decision to make. Make of that what you will, but I took it to mean that KP could retire, and become a freelance T20 cricketer.....or put another way, sacrifice his talent for a quick buck.
