Is he a good batsman? Yes. Does England have anyone of similar quality to replace him? Not really. Does his "large ego" create difficulties in the team? Apparently not. Does he annoy adminstrators? Yes. Does he annoy the press? Yes.
So cricketing reasons say you're wrong. Non cricketing reasons are the only ones that really lead people to suggest this - and they seem to involve people who don't like having large personalities around. I do suspect that those in charge of major English sports would eagerly trade success for a quiet life.
[And name me a top class sportsman - any sport - that doesn't have a big ego, and I'll show you someone who hides it well]

On a personal note we hammered Goldsithney by 8 wickets yesterday in the 'Top of the table' clash of Division 5 West, bowled them out for 139 and coasted to 140-2 with 5 overs to spare, now 59 points clear of the 'rascals'

Seems quite convenient that KP is now available to play in all forms of international cricket. Is this because he has been knocked back in India, so he has come crawling back with the hope that all is back to normal.

I think the terms & conditions of the ECB Central Contracts states that all contract holders play all forms of international cricket, so he has to comply or only play county cricket.

I suppose it came as a culture shock to him to find that the selectors had omitted him from the 13-man squad to face South Africa at Lord's on Thursday, considering the most latest statement made by him.

Pietersen's been found guilty of criticising his boss in an unseen text (presumably information released by the South Africans to have precisely this effect, they've done well out of this!) I do wonder whether Graeme Swann might have been mildly critical of his boss also in a text to a mate of the decision to leave him out of the last test...the ECB as usual does not come out of this affair with credit

At least Anderson and Finn managed to take three wickets apiece on the first day of the Third Test, which is something of an improvement over the bowling efforts in the first South African innings in the first Test Match which led to the situation in which we now find ourselves in only a three-match Test Series.

KP was not picked by Surrey as the ECB had said he is unavailable for selection, and as he is on a central contract Surrey can't argue the case

Whilst in slightly better news (for me anyway ) Durham off the back of Onions 67/9 and Stoneman making 114 are in a strong position against Notts. But I fear that we may struggle to get a win with only one day left after this and suggestions of rain being around of the next two days.

Bairstow and Bell took the score from 54-4 to 178-5, before Bell was out for 58. At least Bairstow showed some application in his batting and is still there as I write this posting.

Can't believe what Bell did after all that hard work! And he knew it as he trudged off. Bairstow though has played a fantastic innings - excellent to watch.

Yes, always good to see a new player do well..especially in the circumstances, I thought SA bowled really well and Bairstow & Bell had a real struggle at first. Interestingly, I thought the SA bowlers bowled like the England bowlers did until recently, constant pressure....is Broad carrying an injury? Sometimes he does seem a shadow of his former self.

I think Broad isn't right - he's clearly bowling within himself for some reason. First things first though, England need some runs from him tomorrow.

As for the South African bowling, it's been a joy to watch. Reminds me of the Harmison, Hoggard, Jones & Flintoff combo we used to enjoy!

I admit that I could see a look of discomfort in Stuart Broad's face yesterday, so he might be carrying an injury, but not serious enough to keep him out of the Test Match.

Sky showed pictures of Broad arriving at Lords today - and he was hobbling. But then, Dale Steyn isn't 100% fit either! And look how well he bowled today!
