England's women have now won two out of two in the T20 world cup, though they made harder work than I expected of chasing Ireland's 118 yesterday evening.

I just happened to notice in time that the match was live on Freeview (Sky Mix, ch11) which I hadn't heard about. Will keep an eye on the schedule in case any more are.

The final overs on Day 1 of the Test Match saw Archer emulating Harold Larwood.

Day 2 started with a good first hour from New Zealand by Phillips and Jamieson and after 87 overs, the score had moved on to 356-7.

Extras celebrated with 51 now to its name.

A superb 1st session of the day saw the Black Caps make it to 391 before being all out, Glenn Philips top scored with a 100 being caught by Gay off Fisher.
Surprisingly the next best scorer was Mr Extras with 53 - 3 No Ball, 8 Wides, 22 Byes and 20 Leg Byes.
The England Bowlers failed to impress this morning, with nobody shining.
Bethell 3-26, Archer 2-61, Fisher 2-62, Baker 2-94, Tongue 1-97 & Brook 0-9.
England survived 3 overs to be 0-15 @ Lunch.

Definitely their own worst enemies. Gay ran Duckett out, Bethel was out to a shot he didn't need to make and Root was out LBW to a ball, he should of played.

Perhaps Root was distracted being only 2 runs short of 14,000 in Tests, with plans to hit a boundary!

Eventually, Day 3 saw England all out for 291 (84 overs), a first innings defecit of 100, which would had been greater if Fisher had not contributed 50 not out from 77 balls, with 6 x 4.

Nicholls ... 119 not out from 164 balls, with 16 x 4

I was at Southampton today to watch the matches there and they do have a bit of an allergy to silence, put it that way...

No real surprises as Australia (219-6) comfortably saw off a plucky Netherlands (122-3) while Bangladesh (123-6) came out on top of an absorbing low-scoring match with Pakistan (100-8), who were 49-0 after seven and a bit overs but then only hit one boundary for the entire rest of the innings. But don't ask me who scored what, as the scoreboard mixed up openers Gull Feroza and Muneeba Ali and the miscommunication wasn't rectified until they were both out... so my scorecard is even more of a mess than usual.

Oh, and speaking of scorecards - I asked the people I went to the game with whether scorecards were sold at the ground (meaning score sheets to fill in with figures as a scorer does), and was thereupon gifted one of those bits of paper with "4" and "6" on each side that you're supposed to wave after each boundary. Are these actually what is usually meant by scorecards?

They sold them at North Marine Road (Scarborough) for £1 a pop last time I was there. Anyway, I think I was probably mixing the two up, yes, although I still don't get how the little boundary paper could be a "scorecard" either!

15 year old Vaibhav Sooyavanashi continues his amazing progress and playing for India A v Sri Lanks A, hit an 11-ball 50 in his innings of 94 from 29 balls with 8 x 6 and 10 x 4.

463 is a very large score to attempt in the second innings of a Test Match and what seemed reasonable when England were 180-4 soon hit the reality wall and they were all out for 209.

What has happened to Lancashire this season, as being in Division 2 of the County Championship still sees them struggle. Today, on day 3 of 4, they were defeated by Derbyshire by nine wickets.

This is their fourth defeat in eight league matches.

I wish I hadn't bought my train ticket and the hotel hadn't taken my money on Thursday. The game was all but lost on day 1 and I wouldn't have travelled. I was thus "treated" to 1.5 days of watching Yorkshire just going through the motions. Josh Davey, a slightly overweight 35 year old Scotsman, showed Yorkshire how to bowl and it took our number 10, Dan Moriarty, to show the rest how to bat. In fact Dan batted for so long I had to abandon my plan B which was to do the miniature railway in Abbey Park after the match. But at least they did sell proper scorecards. How Yorkshire can beat Surrey by an innings and then play like that against the division's bottom team is beyond me.

Out of interest, does anybody know why there were huge numbers of ppx boarding at Nuneaton at Sunday teatime travelling to Birmingham? The sad events near Bedford wouldn't boost this flow as far as I could work out.

It will be very tiring just being stood in the outfield in these conditions, even without needing to bowl. A very good choice by NZ on winning the toss - bat while the players are fresh and you can knacker the opposition.
