Crewe to Newcastle - best splits ?

Hi there,

I need to travel from Crewe to Newcastle and return on Saturday (August 18th). I need to arrive in Newcastle by 11am, and return sometime after 5pm.

After searching I have come up with the following splits

CRE - MAN 12.30
MAN - YRK 27.20
YRK - NCL 30.70
Total 70.20

Can anyone come up with anything better ?

I don't have a rail card, and I don't want to travel via Carlisle.

Thanks, but not sure I want to restrict myself to calling at NTR in both directions

In that case, no.

There are cheaper tickets you can get, but it would restrict you to stopping services.

If you want to have the flexibility of any train on the route via York, then the only splitting points you can use are:

• Manchester Stns
• Huddersfield
• Leeds
• York

If you split anywhere else you are restricting yourself to certain trains.

As there are only 4 stations you can split at, it's pretty easy to work out the possible splits individually by using brfares.com and that will only take a few minutes. Of course, trainscanbecheaper.info can work out potential splits for you as well.

(You could add Stockport if you were happy to restrict yourself to trains that avoid Manchester Airport)

I thought more or less everything stopped at Darlington as well these days ? [ Not that it helps - I've checked splitting there ]

Several EC services run non-stop between York & Newcastle. However it looks like they all call at Darlington in the usual Saturday timetable at present. http://www.eastcoast.co.uk/travel-information/timetable-information/
