Hi all,

Would the off-peak return ticket from Crewe to Glasgow Central be valid to Carluke, with a change at Motherwell? Or not because it is doubling back?

It would be nice to have a bit of flexibility of not sure whether my journey will end in Glasgow, Motherwell, or Carluke.

@MalaiseForever. If you're travelling from Crewe to Carluke, wouldn't you need a ticket from Crewe to Carluke (rather than one from Crewe to Glasgow Central/Queen Street)?

Yes, good point, I’d assumed this incorrectly. The Carluke ticket seems to be slightly more expensive than the Glasgow one, presumably in conjunction with this easement.

Well that’s what I’m trying to work out. Because I might get off in Motherwell instead and then get a lift rather than going to Carluke. I’m trying to understand the best value and most flexible ticket for this.

Looks like a Glasgow ticket would be very to Motherwell as well, but not Carluke.

Thanks both.

Believe a semi-flexible walk-up Off Peak Return ticket from Crewe to/from Motherwell (or Glasgow) (route "via Carlisle") is £142.70 before any applicable railcard discount. From Crewe to/from Carluke, however, is £149.50. From Motherwell to Carluke is £4.70 (Anytime Day Single) and more from Glasgow so no real savings by splitting at Motherwell unless the overall journey is a day trip.

Whenever I am doing trips between my suburban Glasgow station and England, I mostly split at Central. You get routed strange in journey planner on a through ticket, because of Motherwell (when not every train stops there).
