How many dirrerent types of locos,emu's,dmu's would you expect to see at crewe on a saturday?cheers

Class 142 It would be extreemly rare to see one of theese hear as Northern Don't Run 142s into Crewe only 323s as far as i have ever seen.

Class 153 Crewe-Derby EMT service is the best bet fro one of theese
Class 156 -As above but quite rare possibity of seeing one when Football is on at Stoke or Horse Racing at Utoxiter.

Class 158 -As Above along with an odd one or two on ATW MAnchester-Milford Haven Service.
Class 170 -None of theese run into Crewe unles it is on its way to Bomadeer-
Class 175 -ATW Millford Haven Service-
Class 185 -FTPE Don't Run into Crewe so you won't see one of theese here-

Yeah the 185's would'nt be seen there I was wrong - as for the others you highlighted I'm not sure. At the end of the day, especially with DMU's things can change at the drop of a hat so, for example, don't rule out seeing a 142 or a 156 at Crewe.

~If you are thinking of an ATW 142 on the Chester-Crewe Shuttle that would be in the most extreem circumstances as would be a Northern 142 as said an EMT 156 would be rare but not ruled out as if short of 153s you may get one.

I've been on a 156 to Uttoxeter several times, hardly think it's a rare occurence.

Back in Central days you'd occasionally see 2-car Turbostars running the service; them were the days!

ATW rarely send a 142 up to Crewe, so to see one there would be extremely photo-worthy. Northern have a couple of weekday services from Crewe in the mornings I believe that use 142s which was mentioned on gensheet a while ago.

156s, well I can't comment there these days (in the days of CT everything showed up, bar the 150s which I never saw there) but usually 158s with occasional appearances by 153s in combination with 158s on the Crewe to Derby runs.

170s, not since the days of CT I'm afraid.

175s, virtually all ATW services to/from Manchester from/to the Marches, South and West Wales. 158s also appear on these but this is rather unusual these days.

Locos, as others have identified you'll get 57s occasionally on Saturdays, mostly it's going to be 66s and 92s I'd say though.

EMUs, as others have said again it's pretty much just 323s and 350s, although the new 350/2s make appearances up there currently on some services, this is not supposed to be the case mind!

If yo get there for about 05.30 / 05.45 you will have a good chance of seeing the Caladonian Sleeper come through as i witnesed it arround this time Saturday just gone it was hauled by EWS 902020 or something of simmler number.

Looking at the timetable Boards there is one due there at 05:43 i think it said to Invernes...No Overcrowding on that Service

if it was heading to Inverness at that time it'd be bloody late as it's due in to Inverness about 8-9 IIRC!

If I recall the Southbound one is after 5pm. I have used it a couple of times and got off at Crewe. I am sure it was about 5:30 when I was turfed out.

Yep Central trains used to use them on Birmingham - Liverpool from time to time and Northern have also used them on Manchester services. I have been on them both but not recently.

I dunno how it works on Saturdays but there are also chances of seeing freightliner 90's and 86's as some Saturdays they run but that's just a major maybe.

As for other stuff to be seen at Crewe if you are lucky & there shunting stuff around.
Riviera class 47's & stored 56's being shunted about. With the chance of DRS 37's, 47's & 57's knocking about but usually on the independants (viewable from by the rail replacement bus staging area.)

Don't blame them, it's not a fun ride up the Marches on a 142 or 143! I know they've definately been to Craven Arms, I rode on a 142+143 combo on a Sunday to Hereford (the run terminating at Craven Arms due to works), fair to say that was NOT fun.

Not when they have cleaned it, It also boasts a interesting variety of stock

I agree that the facilities aren't amazing at the station. But it still has a 'special' feel to it, if you see what I mean. I do find it rather sad that so many platforms have been lost though, in that respect it's only a shadow of its former self.
