Hi, I was looking through some old photos from the early 1980's when my late father used to take me to Crewe Station (often before or after a trip around the locomotive works on a Saturday)
We used to stand at the southern end of the station on the platform (now out of use) nearest the diesel depot. Now in my late 40's I still visit Crewe every now & then although much has changed since those early days with dad. I wondered if anyone has a platform layout as it was in those days. Looking at pictures on flickr, I've seen the platform we used to stand on being referred to as both platform 13 and platform 1. There were also bays at both ends of that island platform so I wonder what they were numbered as? The other side of the island platform to where we stood (now platform 12) is still in use although the lovely old roof that used to cover the full length of the platform has long gone. I've searched on-line for a station plan for pre-1985 but can't seem to find one. Alternatively, can anyone give a comparison to the current layout - i.e current platform 12 was platform 2 for example. No worries if no-one knows but as a 7 year old, I never took much notice of the layout so it would be interesting to see what has changed - I'm guessing the current platform 2 wasn't around then as that seems a more recent addition? Thanks in advance, if you are able to fill in a few details.

See attached, thanks to the younger me a long time ago.
Note that it was possible to use the Down Through No. 1 line, past Crewe Station A signal box and CA25 signal, and then cross all the way over to the Down Manchester line - I did it a number of times, on regular service trains.

As you'll see, through platforms 1 to 6 from west to east, with lots of -a and -b bays at either end of the station.

PS Crewe Coal Yard signal box is still in use. It's supposed to be removed, but the date keeps slipping.

PPS Dates I’m guessing a bit, but the main details are before 1984 because I’ve noted some minor 1984 changes also.

PPPS I’ve learned how to spell “independent” properly since then also.

EDIT 135 “Views” in one day, looks like it’s of interest to a lot of people!

Perfect, thank you for that, excellent diagrams. Most helpful. It would seem platform 5 is the only platform not to have changed numbers.

I always liked platform 4b, as the Cardiff trains often started from there with class 25s!
