Crewe independent lines

Are there any special rail tours that run through the low level freight-only lines under Crewe North Junction? As far as I know, the last time any passenger trains used the independent lines was when the station had its last major overhaul in the summer of 1985, during which time trains could not pass through or call at the station.

If you have £68 to spare, yes. Chingfinder are running a tour on 16 September. What annoys me is that it's £29.50 for the mini tour from Manchester, but if you want to do the Independent Lines you have to go from Stafford - which isn't that far from Manchester - but pay double!

Hence the name Chingfinder, because they're so expensive.

And, to top it all off, it's going to be a Class 66 on the way back (and it only does the Independent lines in that direction) :roll:

You don't have to pay double - you could do the main tour which does the Independent lines for £45 without the mini tour.

They may be expensive but they run some cracking tours. Bard-n-Birch was pretty good not to mention the surprise use of 37411/425, The Cornishman with D1015 was brilliant and the Airean Raider with 50049/50031!
