I'm going to Crewe on Saturday for the Heritage Centre and DRS open days.

Haven't been to Crewe for decades, so maybe some of you locals on here could kindly help with some info.

My train (if on time) arrives 09.38 giving a maximum of 17 minutes to photograph 5043 on the "Welsh Dragon" during its water stop. Does the watering take place in the station or elsewhere? If in the station which platform is it likely to be?

Hope also to catch the Holyhead Pendo drag departure & arrival and the Northern Belle. Does anyone know likely platforms for these?

Thanks in anticipation!

Watering should be on Platform 12 - if you haven't been there for decades, then it's the really modern-looking platform that makes the rest of the station look quite old, but reinforces its character. P12 is used for tours 99% of the time anyway.

The Pendo drag is usually on the same platform due to the farting about with coupling/uncoupling; standing on the end of Platform 6 nearest to the Heritage Centre, it'll come in/out right past you and you might get the 57 light engine moving around as well. Have fun!
