Tonight's 2314 from Birmingham to Coventry was apparently full and standing leaving New Street this evening with the potential to leave 200+ people behind at Birmingham international following an event at the LG arena.

Some quick thinking from LM they turned an ECS move into an additional train 10 minutes later from BHI to COV. A rare occasion to say well done LM.

Probably not that quick thinking, I would imagine that LM would keeps tabs on what's happening at the NEC so they can react quickly to the occasion so its probably happened before

Shame the NEC doesn't consider rail passengers in the same manner, nearly always have to leave the concert half an hour early to catch the train

Mystified by this comment. Surely it is the TOC's task to cater for the needs of those attending an event. Why should a venue be expected to even be thinking about transport issues? Late running of an event is usually down to the performers rather than the venue itself.

It should be the event holders responsibility to ensure Transport is fit for purpose to its event. This should include liaising with TOCs.

If a Civil Engineer designs a building he also has to ensure the Transport to said building is fit for purpose. I think the operators should have the same responsibility.

Indeed it is patently daft to stage an event and not ensure that there is means of transport for customers to get home. It was one of the requirements of the Lympics of course, to get the tube running late to ensure spectators could get home. I know the NEC has good road links but these days we are meant to be encouraging people to reduce emissions and one way to do this is by encouraging people to use public transport.

More likely the traincrew agreed to work over their rostered hours or 'spares' were used.

It is of course possible that the crew were rostered to work the ECS movement (5C99 to Coventry Yard) which was curtailed at International to form 2C99 onwards. Thus the crew were already working the train, instead of ECS they were working in passenger service. They may have been slightly late off, but the sourcing of the crew wouldn't have been a massive issue to LM.

It'd have been a matter of talking the driver into it and probably finding a Guard, as I don't know whether the ECS move would have had a Cov Guard travelling back pass on it already, though I doubt it.

You say finding train crew wouldn't be a massive issue for LM, well, it would be normally, particularly on a Friday/Saturday. It's not unusual for there to be numerous jobs left open on the drivers side and no one left sitting spare on the guards or drivers side. As it was, last night they were fairly well covered, which was lucky as the trains were rammed and some people were left behind by Redditch and Rugeley TV trains. One of the latter required BTP intervention.
