Creative excuses: "I was late because..."

On an East Coast service :

"We are currently running approximately 25 minutes late, this is owing to late running"

That's what's given on the NR feeds - that and "delays on an earlier service" which isn't very precise either!

The best 2 excuses ive ever heard so far.

1: I cant come to work because i cant stop sneezing. (except to phone in sick)

2: I cant come to work today because a tree has fallen through my roof and pinned me to my bed.

These were both used by people in a place i worked over ten years ago.

I`ve used this once when late for school;

The train had a puncture.....

Teacher actually believed it for all of 5 minutes

I had a friend, who on being asked why he was late (he was never punctual to anything) just used to respond "because I'm not on time..."

If pressed for an explanation he'd offer something ridiculous as a reason, but most of these escape me.
