I started a thread in one of the other sections on a particular operation that a friend had videoed

For those of a similar mindset this would make an excellent Train Sim scenario.

Anyone got any advice on how to go about creating / replicating this allocation in TS. I've never tried it myself, but understand there is a "constructor" option... other than a 66 what wagons come close to those used in real life... I'm guessing that as the destination of BOW doesn't form part of the Kings Cross ECML route, would an additional route pack be required, or could you extend the existing route / track ?

Comments please :)

In TS you can click on the build button on the home screen and this should them list all the routes and scenarios you have. You can then select the route and then create or edit a scenario. In the scenario editor you can then go and place the trains, add drivers to then timetable them where you want on the route. I'm not sure on the wagons in the simulator as I always drive passenger trains but you can use almost anything you have installed.

For the ECML route it only goes into kings cross so you have to build to Bow through editing the route if you want to go there. One option could be finishing/starting at finsbury park through a fictional driver change.

Take a look on YouTube as there will be a number of videos showing how to make scenarios/editing ect in TS which will be better at explaining than me:).

If i'm understanding the query correctly there are a couple of ways you could do it.

1, Just use the London to Peterborough route and create a scenario starting south of Finsbury Park on the chord from the NLL at the signal.

2, Create a multi-part scenario, first using the North London Line DLC ending at the same chord then adding a second scenario starting from the location in option 1.

Now whether TS allows you to perform the correct manoeuvres at Biggleswade is another question entirely! But given the train is at Biggleswade for 80 minutes you could turn it into a 3-part scenario with one part ending as you reverse into the Plasmor sidings at Biggleswade and the next part starting as you build the train for the departure north.

As for the wagons themselves, I don't believe we have anything suitable for use, at least not in the current era.

Thanks for the replies,

So it's doable, but with some degree of designers licence in adding a fictional driver change, and substituting the wagons for something else.... The next rainy day I might have a look at this a little more.

Another option for the start of the scenario could be a 'rolling start' where the train is already moving. I haven't created one myself but I have started a scenario like this where the start of the service was not on any TS routes.

OMG - I've just entered the builder option, and after a bit of fumbling added a 66 I purchased, and around 20 12T wagons (OK not the correct type, but I'm just practicing :) ) - It locked the loco and wagons to the track, I found out (Via Youtube) how to give the loco a direction, and add a driver to the front end. If I save the free roam scenario I can sit in the cab, cancer the AWS, throttle etc, but the loco won't move. So more you tube videos and found one that says you have to select the time table icon, and then in the list of actions next to the driver in the route window enable the tick box next to the loco icon.... but this is sorta grayed out and I can't enable it.... any ideas ?

OK I deleted the scenario and started again, and this time I have managed to enable that option in the second try... Added the siding as a destination and Finsbury park as the final destination but whilst the scenario runs, the loco won't move

When you start to create your scenario and the box comes up to name it are you selecting standard scenario in the drop down below? Could it be something on the 66 like a DRA button (stops train taking power when pressed and lights up red). If you still don't know then maybe a screenshot would help as i'm not familiar with the TS 66's.

I'm sure the 66 is an "official" loco - I purchased it years ago when I first got the game (four or five years ago from memory), but I don't play it that much these days (played less than 60 hours according to Steam !).

Anyway I've attached a document that includes some screen shots detailing the process -

I also repeated the procedure with a class 43 (from the list of available locos present on default - no other content added and it moves - so it must be something to do with that loco. The strange thing is I have one other scenario that I created when I first got the loco years ago that uses the same freightliner 66 and that works fine, so at some point I have manages to get this to run - just that it may have been as far back as 2014 !!

I'm at a loss !

I'll try cloning the other scenario and see if that works

Got it working - It was probably user error

See the white lever next to the brake.... seems you need to play with that one too !!

I did say it was a while since I played with this !!

Glad you got it working. By the sounds of things there is a train brake and a separate loco brake then.

Not sure... the lever on the right adjusts two blue bars... when the bar on the left is low and the one on the right high, the loco moves - guessing this is the vacuum brake or something ?

I've only clocked up 58 hours in total, and that has been driving trains that have a throttle and a brake levers....the issue was just my poor experience and knowledge of the loco (possibly advance settings ?)

Not sure myself. I don't think advance settings would make any difference to the break levers. Could be wrong.

Well, having spent the past three days working on a scenario based around the movements I've come to realise this application is so frustrating that its not worth bothering with.

I have added wagons, set the steps for the actions - no warnings - all timings are listed and no exclamation marks indicating a conflict. Saved the scenario, exited out the builder sections (having watched Matts videos) and run the game. It works as it should, apart from randomly ending the game with a "signal passed at danger" message when shunting ! - there is no signal in the yard... the first time was backing into the siding with the full load to split the train, the second time I got passed that bit and was reversing into the adjacent siding to collect the empties.. easing up to the wagons at 1mph and ----- game over !

Must admit all this effort has taken the edge off the idea....

I sorted that issue out... but there are harder things to overcome which might make this scenario impossible

Glad you got it sorted. I have come across 1 occasion on my scenarios that I have made where the signal would not clear even though the route was set. This meant I had to TAB to get approval to pass it at red.

Well I've lost my scenario creation virginity :) - My first attempt has been uploaded to my steam workshop area. If you go to the steam workshop for TS202 and search for Bigglsewade Freight- 4E25/6L69 you should find it.

It may not be perfect, my not be a true representation of the real life services which is down to the limitations of the simulator, but it's fun to run

Feel free to give it a go. It does require the DTG Freightliner 66 v2 which can be had from their online store for an offer price of £2.39 !
