Cracking Clag Pictures. . .

I don't know if i'm allowed to do this but i am, i just thought these pictures are great and i would post them so others could see.

Is this normal for 37410? or is it on fire or something lol but whatever, plenty of clag

The latter, also being on the front cover of the new Visions International DVD 'THRASH' Which i will be purchasing when it's released along with 'Route 66', 'Clagging 2' and maybe either '125' or 'AC Electric Fade Away', i've also got '37 Fade Away' which is very rate-able

it would seem fairly normal if the loco has been idling for a while (given those locations, it could have been coasting down from the Pennines) and the driver then applies full power, seeing the photographer, and the photographer snaps the shot at the right moment. That's probably what happened.

It wouldn't be normal for a sustained period to be emitting that amount of clag unless there was something wrong with the loco, but that's clearly not the case here (look at the way the clag doesn't trail beyond the loco).

Apparently 37410 won't be working next year for some time or none of the year because of some problem....

That's just technique, anything in theory could do it - it's eventually a sure fire way to knacker your exhaust though

Even our 101 was shooting 3 foot flames last week!

Flames out of the exhaust just mean that not all the fuel is being burnt in a cylinder{s} during the combustion process and is ejected into the exhaust pipe work.
The fuel will then sit here cooking in the hot exhaust pipe until it reaches ignition temperature, when it will ignite spontainiously
In short, flames out the exhaust might look cool, but it means the engine isn't operating at maximum efficency and fuel is being wasted

Well when i was last at Carlisle there sparks coming out of 37087 for about 2 - 3 foot in the air when it was doing the Carlisle - Sellafield Acid Tanks.
