*downs a few beers and gets the crayons out* see what you want to do with the London rail network is bury the lot. Seperate out the Metro lines (especially in south London), add express tracks to the outer suburban lines (6 track Great Eastern to Shenfield, Great Northern to Welwyn, four track Chiltern, 6 track GW to somewhere etc) and also bury all of the all Underground and current Overground (needs rebranded). Bingo. Loads of surface space opened up for development and also an entirely weather proof metro rail network seperated from outer suburban and Intercity. Anyone got, ohh, £1trillion spare?

Obviously do the same for other metro/suburban networks such as Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool, Newcastle, Glasgow.

You got the alphabetic order the wrong way around.

Just trying to get an idea of how many potential dev sites Network Rail owns.

Cane Hill cutting on the Quarry Line used to be a tunnel, so could presumably be converted back to one.
