Trying to find tickets for someone to do this journey on Friday 13th May around 10am, to return Monday 16th May around noon.

No railcards

Virgin is saying its a £61 flat fare and no Advances seem to be available, Trainsplit.com is suggesting the journey can be done for £46 but I cant see to find any of those tickets on the Virgin site?

Any ideas how I can get this journey down from £61? Cheers.

There are Advances (from/to Wolverhampton or Birmingham New Street) at around the times you are considering. On a quick look, a Wolverhampton-Prestatyn Advance, plus a Prestatyn-Wolverhampton Advance, plus a Coventry-Wolverhampton Anytime Return, should cost in the range £41 to £46 depending on which trains you opt for. But you will need to search separately for the Wolverhampton-Prestatyn return journey and the Coventry-Wolverhampton return journey. One last thought, I assume that you are trying to buy tickets for one person only: if buying for multiple passengers, and there aren't enough Advances left at the lowest available price for all of them, because the journey planners seem to be programmed to try to offer tickets for each member of a group at the same price, you will be offered tickets at the next price level up.

Indeed but there is a booking fee and an admin fee, Id rather avoid it where possible.

Found the split via Wolves on the Virgin site, got it down to £34 for the Wolves/Prestatyn bit and then £6 each for the Wolves/Cov singles, so a total of £46, so that will do :)

You might consider advances from Coventry to Crewe for a total of £16 and an off peak return Crewe to Prestatyn for £24.10. 10.42 Coventry to Crewe on the Friday costs £8.50, Crewe to Coventry at 12.19 on Monday is £7.50 with a change at Birmingham New Street.

If you go further along the North Wales coast there are advances from Crewe to Llandudno Junction from £10 on Friday 13 and back from £7.50 on Monday 16 May.

The way to do it is splitting at Birmingham International. A return Coventry to International is less than £4 at the times you want. International to Prestatyn via Shrewsbury with no change of train. Dep 11:09 £21. Return Dep Prestatyn 12:45 £18 - again via Shrewsbury. No change of train.
