Coventry to Plymouth

For Saturday 24th September, needs to be a HST both ways!

So I could do Coventry to Reading, Reading to Plymouth (HST)

or

Coventry to Birmingham Birmingham to Plymouth HST

I want to be there no later than one, home before midnight.

Full adult fare, standard class accommodation, what is the cheapest I can do, looking at advances currently.

HST on AXC on 24th Sept are 0600 Leeds - Plymouth 1151, through Birmingham New Street @ 0812, this set works 1223 Plymouth - Glasgow Central back to Birmingham New Street @ 1556 and 0632 Dundee - Plymouth 1651 through Birmingham New Street @ 1412, this set works 1725 Plymouth - Leeds back to Birmingham @ 2056.

Look for advances on these trains for HST

If you choose to do AXC via Birmingham N Street then heres an option, by the looks of it Advances will set you back £88.00, so take this option :

Coventry to Cheltenham Spa Off Peak Return Any Permitted : £22.80

Cheltenham to Bristol Temple Meads Off Peak Day Return Any Permitted : £7.80

Bristol Temple Meads to Taunton Off Peak Day Return Any Permitted : £11.00

Taunton to Plymouth Off Peak Day Return Any Permitted : £16.50

the HST's call at the stations i have split at. Total Cost : £58.10

Or with the Taunton - Plymouth leg, buy a Taunton - Tiverton Parkway Off Peak Day Return Any Permitted £8.60 , then a Devon Day Ranger priced at £10 giving you a lot more routes in Devon, you can travel as far as AxMinister on South West Trains

Barnstaple,Exmouth, Paignton with FGW or XC, down as far as Plymouth and the Branch to Gunnislake, just an idea hope this all helps

1725 is the latest AXC HST with the new weekend diagrams that came into force today

Is it possible to do FGW HST as far as possible and Voyager back to BHM?

Well the last service from Plymouth to BHM via.AXC is 1825. ( this is the last train from the South West), if you wanted a FGW HST take the 1754 as far as Taunton arrive 1924, then take the last AXC service ( which is a voyager) from Taunton at 1951, arriving back into Birmingham N Street at 2153

Well going to do this next week now, how do I go about buying split tickets?

Go to the station ticket window, tell them what you want, and pay them money

I just don't want to risk having issues, my Mum was charged full fare by a rude XC guard because she had split tickets, which are "invalid" on trains the guard said, I wasn't there to tell her otherwise.

With respect, the method you use to buy your tickets will not affect the intelligence and knowledge of the guard

But the ticket office may object is all some staff seem to try and get away with what they can, though a guard has the incentive of commission.
