Help me avoid the megabus please!

Needs to leave after 16:30 and get there by 8 at the latest, I have a 16-25 railcard.

Megabus can do it for less than £10, wouldn't mind paying a bit more than that but currently can only find £30 fares.

The megabus doesn't get you there until 8.30, but with a 1h40 journey time might be tolerable. Otherwise you have 2h40 by train via London for about £30. Your call.

If you're able to leave a little earlier (1621) and possibly arrive a little later (2005) than you've set out in your post, and you're willing to tolerate a slow service between Coventry and London, then I might have something for you.

- £3.95 Advance Single with 16-25 Railcard from Coventry to London Euston, valid only on the 1621 departure.
- £16.10 Anytime Day Single with 16-25 Railcard from London King's Cross to Cambridge, valid on any service.

1) London Northwestern Railway: 1621 Coventry - 1817 London Euston
2) London Euston - London King's Cross. It's either one stop on the tube, or about a 12-minute walk (going by Google Maps timings, you might well be quicker).
3) Great Northern: 1844 London King's Cross - 1934 Cambridge OR Great Northern: 1914 London King's Cross - 2005 Cambridge.
The 1844 falls short of minimum connection times from Euston, but since your ticket from King's Cross to Cambridge would be flexible anyway, if you happened to miss the 1844 you could always catch the 1914 or any service after it.

If you're able to leave even earlier, there are some advances left for £11.90 on the 1611 Virgin Trains service to Euston, which would get you in at 1714.

Alternatively, what about Coventry - Milton Keynes Central on the 1631 departure, then X5 bus? Should get you to Cambridge by 2000 or so.

For what it's worth, if you do fancy getting the 1611, there are some advances from Liverpool Street to Cambridge for £7.60, for instance at 1807 arriving into Cambridge at 1916.

Cheers, booked something for £37 odd. £9 each way more expensive than the coach- but it's not a coach so it's worth it!

Are 387s running KGX to CBG now or is it still 365s?

If you're on an xx44 to Kings Lynn (or any other King's Lynn through working from King's Cross) it will be a 387s

xx14s are a mix. About the time your travelling, 1714 and 1914 are 365s (1814 goes to Lynn so is a 387). Most other evening trains are 387s IIRC, with one or two exceptions.
