(Course) literature regarding Track and Signalling Engineering

Hi!

Im a new member of this forum and i apologize sincerly if i am in the wrong section,but... As a railway engineer student from Sweden, i am eager to know if there are any books or similar publication whom which describes the engineering principles behind signalling and track engineering? I am in search of uk based / applicable books.

Try the Modern Signalling Handbook by Stanley Hall.

For P-Way stuff I can heartily recommend the books from the PWI:

The 6th edition of the handbook is a good summary of everything, if a little dated. The PWI are currently re-writing and massively expanding the info to be published as a 7th edition in lots of parts, only some of which are available. They are being very slow in this regard...

I too am on the lookout for other good books so eagerly await suggestions.
Also, If you want to learn about track, you mustn't forget the formation/trackbed side of things, although I've got no idea what to recommend by way of reference material for this.

Also look out for two books published by A & C Black which I believe are now out of print but can still be found via one of the many bookshops on the Internet. The first is called "Railway Signalling", the other is called "Railway Control Systems".

The Permanent Way Institute has a series of books about track engineering which can be purchased. They are cheaper if you are a member. If you want to be a member then PM me and I will organise an application for you.

You may also wish to join the American Railway Engineering and Maintenance of Way Association (AREMA).

Seconded re joining the PWI. You get a quarterly journal which has some very interesting info in it usually, cheaper books and publications, the ability to attend the main conferences (although these carry individual charges), and you get added to the mailing list for your local section so you find out about their meetings. My section (Birmingham) has meetings nearly every month, other sections have different numbers of meetings. Attendance at these meetings is free and you don't have to be a member so I suggest you go along and join up if you think you like it.
