Coupling distance

Any views as to why the ridiculous distance between buffers on some rolling stock, such as these Hornby Blue Circle Cement bogie wagons. Spacing is not too bad on these Replica HEA hoppers.

The obvious thing in that case seems to be the bogies pushing the couplings out further.

Yes. The coupling bar is too long obviously. On some coaching stock that I have shortened, it became apparent that buffers could be brought quite close before they fouled on curves. But some stock has been manufactured with couplings way too long, and looks unrealistic going round a layout.

Aren't the PCA tankers the moulds which Hornby bought from Lima? Those coupling bars look Lima-esque. Which would explain why they're not as close as NEM couplers. If you have the patience and the cash, you could try the Keen couplers range?

Those tankers are the ex-Lima ones, but it also applies to some of 'Hornby's own models'.
