Which councils still publish PDF bus maps? Also are there any that still do paper ones too?

I am talking about bus maps of the entire county or council area. Ones that show all bus operators and all bus services.

I specifically like PDF ones as you can download them to your phone and view them offline or print out a copy to keep. They are so much clearer than those annoying interactive ones that some councils use.

East Sussex County Council are the best one i can think of. They have a county wide PDF map and local town PDF maps. To their credit they are always kept very up to date. They publish a new PDF map almost instantly every time that a little change happens. The only dissapointing thing is that they make their maps very hard to find and the main page on their website only links to the interactive map rather than the PDF ones. They no longer do paper ones (they stopped those about ten years ago) but their online PDF ones are excellent quality.

Surrey County Council still publish PDF maps but rarely update them. The current county wide one is almoat four years out of date. They only seem to publish a new one about once every five years.

Hampshire County Council still publish a county wide bus map and seem to update it once a year. They also still do paper versions. Unfortunately it seems that they are stopping both paper and online versions later this year.

West Sussex County Council used to publish a PDF map on their website that got updated about once every five years. So it was always very out of date. But they completely removed the map about six months ago and it seems they no longer produce one.

Kent County Council, Wiltshire County Council, Dorset County Council, Cambridgeshire County Council, Oxfordshire County Council, Northamptonshire County Council, all got rid of their PDF maps at least ten years ago.

Essex County Council and Buckinghamshire County Council still appear to do interactive maps but not proper PDF maps any more. These are not as clear or easy to read or understand as a traditional PDF network map.

These are links to ones that are still available that i can find:

----------------

• East Sussex County Council:

Click on "PDFs of the county map and town maps" and then click on the "Main County Map" file or any of the other town maps available.

• Devon County Council:

Click on "menu" and then "map PDFs" and then click on the "Devon County Map" file or any of the town maps.

• Hampshire County Council:

Scroll to the bottom and click on the "Hampshire Bus Train Ferry Travel Guide" file.

• Surrey County Council:

Click on the "Countywide Bus Map" file or any of the other local town maps.

• Herefordshire County Council:

Click on the "Herefordshire County Bus Map" file or any of the town maps.

• Hertfordshire County Council:

Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the "Hertfordshire County Bus Map" file or any of the town maps.

----------------

If you go back twenty years then every single council used to produce a county bus map. It is a shame they have gotten so rare.

Does anyone know of any other councils that still make network wide PDF maps and have them hidden on their sites? Or even better any that still do paper maps?

I am trying to create a list of all of them that are still available. They are extremely useful when it comes to planning bus journeys so it is a shame that they are not more widespread.

Oxfordshire has reinstated their PDF maps and intend to start producing a paper version soon, though I'll grant they're hard to find. https://www.mybusoxfordshire.org.uk/discover-oxfordshires-bus-routes-with-our-maps
Warwickshire also produce them: https://www.warwickshire.gov.uk/busroutemaps
Thank you for those. Excellent finds. That is a nice surprise to see a council restart publishing bus maps again. Hopefully some other councils copy them and restart too.

Sadly Hampshire have now stopped doing theirs, the 2024 versions were the last

Greater Manchester axed paper maps years ago, way before Covid, but they still do a similar set of cycle maps

North Yorkshire stopped doing maps probably over a decade ago

Merseytravel still publish bus maps maps but online PDFs only, the Liverpool area map though is an abomination it doesn't include tendered services like the 133 ecc.

Cornwall still produce a PDF map - and has been updated to reflect the latest changes (aka cutbacks).

Cornwall
Although technically Plymouth Citybus produce it and the timetable booklets on behalf of the council, hence why it’s not traditional in style.

West Yorkshire has maps covering most of the county in lots of bits.

They're not as good as they used to be and have errors that they don't correct when pointed out (coming out of Keighley the 62, 66, M4 disappear for a while with just the weekly 866 showing then reappear at the edge of the map, the 820 still show's last year's route when it ran from Keighley rather than Bradford).

I've not seen a printed one since about 2018.

Warwickshire County Council still publish bus maps, these are latest ones are from September 25.

Cumbria used to publish bus maps, but the County Council was abolished 2 years ago & replaced by 2 unitary authorities who do not publish any bus maps.

Cheshire West & Chester still publish PDFs

Medway's guide was last printed in October 2024. It isn't guaranteed to be produced every year - especially if the network is largely stable - but when it has been it is usually autumn. There have been some route changes since the last edition, so time will presumably soon tell whether we are 'due' a new one or not.

I picked up a printed Hyndburn / Accrington map last week. I only knew of this because I saw one for sale on Ebay!
Stoke-on-Trent is about to produce a printed map.

Halton doesn't publish bus maps anymore [they publish timetables] i can't find the map on the Halton Council website, & Warrington network map is dated October 24.

Chester West & Chester do publish bus maps, look up ay my post for the links, have a look at other posts first, before posting illinformed posts.

While Travel South Yorkshire produce informative PDF maps one area that for some reason is missing off the published maps for Sheffield and maybe Rotherham is Chapeltown, all other areas are covered quite well but you won't find Chapeltown on either a Sheffield or Rotherham map.

They used to produce separate north and south maps for Sheffield, which they stopped doing a while ago. The newer singular maps are derived from the map found in Sheffield Interchange, which has, as far as I know, always omitted the area around Chapeltown as you said

Honestly, I don't know why they didn't replace the Killamarsh inset with a northern Sheffield inset (it'd have to be at a smaller scale and omit Stocksbridge though)

The Stoke-on-Trent paper map is now available. Very splendid it is too, being a proper map and not wriggly lines that approximate the route. Copies can be had from Hanley Bus Station.

The Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority doesn't officially (although Cambridgeshire County Council did when it was their responsibility), however they produced a one off one for internal use earlier this year and it's at this link
