Notice, though, that MPs are beginning to get worried because it might be embarassing while the Eyes of the World are upon us during the Olympics. Notice that MPs aren't worried about ordinary people being inconvenienced or Uk businesses being disrupted; it just might be embarassing during the Olympics. :roll:

Heaven forbid anything should disrupt the precious Limpicks. Wonder if someone mentioned to MPs that visitors may be invonvenienced if they were run over and had to wait 8 hours in A&E, the NHS will be reformed for the better?

Just think of all the British expenditure on security, infrastructure, etc, that could have been saved if France had been awarded these Games. All for the sake of a few days meaningless "prestige", when people in the country will be suffering for years to come from the effects of the repayment of the astronomical debt that the country had run up in recent years.

When the games were bidded on and won though of course we were in the middle of a economic boom and spending £x billion on the Olympic Games wouldn't have seemed quite as unreasonable as it does now. Of course in hindsight the last thing we want to be doing now is funding an Olympic Games but if we'd known a recession was just round the corner I think a lot of things would have panned out differently

Why not insist that Labour pay for it, as they were the ones who were so keen to have it.
