Could bus ticket machines issue "bogroll" Aztec code tickets for rail use?

I heard a presentation by Roger French that described a reversal of the PlusBus scheme where tickets were issued, presumably on the buses in Brighton, to cover travel on Thameslink to London.

Could this work elsewhere with buses issuing Aztec coded tickets. Integrated public transport and all that!
