Cottingham-Nottingham

2 travelling, one return and one just in one direction (on the return). Out on 31st Dec and back on 1st Jan, both with 16-25 railcards. I would prefer flexibility rather than advance tickets.

Currently can't find any decent splits for the return ticket, have got the single down to £20.70 travelling via Grantham/Selby on Hull Trains. Any thoughts?

Route Sheffield SVR is £29.65 so it will be difficult to beat unless taking an esoteric anomaly.

The best I can come up with is:

Cottingham - Hull SOR £3.70
Hull - Doncaster Route Hull Trains Only SOR £11.55
Doncaster - Long Eaton SVR £13.35

totalling £28.60 but that effectively restricts you to a few departures a day. If you replace the first two with Cottingham - Doncaster SOR £15.90 then you're only saving yourself pence compared to the through fare.

Alternatively splitting once at Chesterfield reduces the fare to £29.00

On my phone but what's the routeing on Cottingham - Langley Mill? is it valid via Newark/Grantham priced at £21.60 SVR.

Or if only valid for travel via Sheffield then combine like this. :

Cottingham - Langley Mill £21.60 SVR
Langley Mill - Nottingham 2 x Anytime Day Singles = £5.40

restricts you to the Northern Stopper between Sheffield - Nottingham unless you manage to grab a Peak EMT stopper.

total cost for return is : £27.00

Only Hull and Chesterfield pass fares check respectively.

Maps permitted are CE, CE+WK, HU+CE, HU+SH+MM, WK, WK+CE, WY+CE.

None that I can see allows travel via Grantham. However this does provide a cheaper split. Well spotted, sonic.

I can get the Single down the £20.55 and doesn't restrict you via Hull Trains Only Fares.

Be careful typing while you are booking online - you might get Mottingham instead.
Or even Tottingham (as Ossie Ardiles pronounced the name of his football club!).
