Cost of points with different speed limits - public data available?

Does anyone know if there's any publicly-available information on the typical cost of a set of points designed for different speeds? Eg: "25mph points cost X, 50mph points cost 2X". Or, even better, something that says the speed is pretty irrelevant compared to the cost of installation.
Obviously costs will vary from location to location, but ballpark figures are sufficient for my purposes (university project).

(An academic source would be perfect, but I appreciate that this is unlikely to have been studied academically!)

A good base for the maximum speed would be Searchlight Lane, Staffs - 100mph turnout to both routes.

As you mention, location specific variables will heavily skew the cost.

ORR monitors NR renewals outputs and expenditure. Their reports are usually in the public domain.

I’ve never heard the relative costs of turnout speeds discussed in renewals schemes only overall linespeeds.

Rugby north was the first deployment of 125mph turnouts on NR but HS1 probably has higher speeds across point ends.

I think the standard on French LGVs is 220km/h (137mph), there are multiple locations, they are not one offs, so presumably can be ordered and bought (but no idea of cost)

Might be worth looking at the PWI or ORR reports, as a H switch and variants of it are the fastest S&C.

I can't give you costs, but longer turn outs / higher speed points increase in cost as you go up through the standard sizes.
Point work costs rather more than plain line. And a longer switch rail needs more machining. Same for the stock rail.
The crossing or frog is more expensive as well, as a longer type is needed. Longer means more material.

In addition, more fittings, base plates/slide chairs, stretchers, supplementary drive systems, electrical detectors, point heaters are all needed.

Transport costs are higher. Installation costs are higher.

You need a copy of Spon's Railway Construction Price Book. Second hand copies are available on Ebay . If its a few years out of date just adjust by the annual rates of inflation. That will be accurate enough for your purpose.

When S&C is ordered only some of the cost is paid with the rest paid once installed. The size will affect the cost but some will rail grade, any coating, if a crossing is explosive depth hardened. A consideration to power requirements for points is a big requirement if there is a change to POE during a renewal as well as OLE adjustments if on an electrified line. There are so many variances it is hard to give a once off cost.

The cost of Switches and Crossings (S&C) is calculated by their length, and not specifically by their speed. However longer S&C units are usually of higher speed!

The length is calculated by measuring various dimensions on the through and turnout route, and even for the same speed, those lengths can vary considerably down to curvature, cant, negative cant, and other factors.

However that is the cost of the track itself. On top of that is the installation cost (obviously more for longer turnouts), and if installing anything that isn’t like-for-like there will be additional signalling and electrification costs (where the line is electrified).

As an example, a 50mph crossover (2 x S&C) that is a like for like renewal in straight track will cost substantially less than a 50mph crossover that is replacing a 20mph crossover in curved track on an OLE electrified line.
