How has the current situation affected the 2020 intake of GWR Driver Trainees? Is there ongoing video training or are they on a break until told to return?

I would hope that the RDG/whoever is pressing the government to make sure the railway is high on the list of groups to get antibody tests when they become available. Presumably it wouldn’t take that many tests to build a core of trainers etc across the industry to ensure that a return to normal wasn’t delayed by a lack of drivers, trains, or route learning?

All training has been put on hold until further notice and the training school is basically closed to trainees. I believe they’re doing what they can to train those in the classroom training remotely etc. Those during their handling hours etc are in the same boat. I had my simulator assessment due last week :(

We will get through this soon enough, so just got to stay positive.

Hi all, I passed the two on line assessments for GWR (Paddington)around the 7th March.
I received an email congratulating me that I had passed both tests. It also said while they endeavour to take everyone through to the next assessment they can’t always accommodate due to the high numbers of applicants.
Just wondering if I’ve not heard anything because I haven’t been taken through, or due to the current situation with Covid19.
Is anyone else in the same position? Thanks.

Could be either, it’s impossible to say really. However, railway recruitment is slow on the best of days, but now GWR has suspended all trainee driver training, it’s likely Covid-19 will play a part in delays.

I'm in the same position. I contacted them again and they responded this morning to say the application is still under review. So none the wiser I'm afraid
