Cork to Dublin.

Hi, i'll be staying in Cork soon and was thinking of getting the train up to Dublin for a day trip. I looked up prices and it seemed alright but is it good value for time ect. Vs car?

Also I'm planning to get the 9:25 (arriving at 11:59) train to Dublin (will it be a Mark 4?) and return on the 17:00. Is this enough time + what should i see?

You're looking good for a 201 + Mark 4's both ways. You'll have 5 hours in Dublin - all depends what you want to do?

22000 Inter City Rail cars. All non Cork trains out of Heuston are ICR's. so you could shuttle to Parkwest (7 minutes) and back to try those.
For the rest - The LUAS tram red line will take you to Dublin Connolly. DARTs, 29000 DMU's and some 22000 ICRs. DART to Clontarf road for a look at the DART depot there?
Otherwise Connolly via the loop line to Tara Street, Pearse and Grand Canal dock and back..? You can see the Enterprise services at Connolly also.

The serviceservices you are planning are MK4 diagrams. If you want to go on a 22000 unit then you could get the 1705 or 1725 from Dublin and change onto the 1800 along the way but that would mean being a bit later into cork. There is 1 22000 diagram on the Dublin to Cork service as there is an extra north bound services on a weekday morning I think it is used on a late southbound journey thorough ready for the morning.

For the DART make sure you get an 8100 Class Train, getting on for 40 years old now but had an excellent refurbishment so look nowhere near it and are a real proper inner suburban train with decent seats!
