I'm travelling to Morocco in September. Part of my journey is from Cordoba to Algeciras on a Wednesday in early September.

I know that RENFE are notorious at loading trains on to their system but I'm concerned about the lack of trains. The DB rail planner shows most trains as running until 31/07. After this date the RENFE only shows the 16:59 service (even for 01/08)

RENFE don't do printed timetables. I wondered if anyone had a copy of the European Rail Timetable for this summer and could check to see if the 08:59/09:10 departure is a dated train or shown as running through August and September

The ERT (June edition) has MD trains only running between Antequera (Santa Ana) and Algerciras and vice versa, and the IC Talgo Madrid trains have been withdrawn. Hopefully this is just temporary for engineering works.

Córdoba 08.59 Antequera (S.A.) 0937 (AVE)
Antequera (S.A.) 10.09 Algerciras 12.48 (MD)

I don't mind a change. Hopefully I can still get there with just a change.

Thank you

That was the case when I travelled from Madrid to Algeciras back in April. Covid cancellations which haven’t been reinstated was what I was told.

I like the footnote in ERT which says that Antequera Santa Ana station is 17km from the town. ;)

I have looked at using that route to reach Morocco, and last time I checked the Tanger (Ville) ferry ran from Tarifa, 20km west of Algeciras.
That route seems to have vanished from the ERT listings, although the FRS ferry (fast ferries) still has a web site and shows bus connections from Algeciras.
The alternative is the ferry route from Algeciras to Tanger Med, but with an uncertain connection to Tanger itself, 50km west.

With also just 1 change-in the same station/estacion, you could also do: AVE to Malaga (ev 2 hrs)-or slower local/regional, then fast express bus Mlg-Alge (many run onward to Cadiz, along coast), also about ev 2 hrs. Do not worry about reserving monthes ahead-unneeded. There are more buses from Mlg, some use the much slower old route along the many coastal resorts on that sunny costa.
This RENFE line from Bobadilla (most likely change point) has really deteriorated and is quite slow now-with just 2-3 trains/day. But the sights are quite nice, it passes small towns like Ronda. At my last visit there-winter time, last late febr, it was just a tiny 2-car dieselset. And I am aware of the name of this forum and tendency of many to believe train is always better choice.

I would be confident that the MD trains are all-year-round (and I am hoping to do the mountain part of the line in September myself), but engineering works are another matter.....
