Coping with hot weather at work

As expected, the theatre gallery was roasting tonight. Very apt the show we are doing is Sunday In The Park With George with one of the numbers being 'It's hot up here' - sure is

Back with work, the place I work is a manufacturing business - the production areas will be like ovens by now I should imagine. It won't be pleasant. In the office I usually wear shirt and tie, but they seem fairly easy going about it and not everyone wears ties. As for tomorrow I'm going dressed down as I have to set up some offices in one of our sites that haven't been offices for 5 of so years so i can get a bit more stuck in. Not looking to the heat though!

I don't work at the moment (am a student in-between colleges), but when it gets to 25ºC and above (very rare) at home, I always open the window wide, go topless (not really a pretty sight, I know lol) and I drink plenty of water.

Air-con is not a option in this flat (mainly on cost grounds).

Better than in the winter when the heating's packed in (more often than not) - working at 4 C in the middle of last winter

The labs at my uni were like that, you either had to wear just a tshirt under your lab coat or as many layers as you could fit without the fasteners popping open whenever you tried to pick anything up.

I would have done myself but neither of my local pubs have an outside drinking area unfortunately. Instead I decided to set up my sun lounger in my back yard (which is fairly small) and have a few cans of beer at home. It was certainly a nice day to have a day off!

It is roasting in our office even with all the windows and ventilation panel open. We don't have air con, we have natural ventilation (!)

Lots of water and an ice cream and/or pint on the way home seem the best approach!

Our aircon in work has broken, which is just fabulous....

We have all the doors open and to be fair there is a nice breeze so it's not too bad. We've called maintenance for the aircon to be fixed!

We have aircon in our office, and as it has been turned upto the max it has been pretty damn cold in here the last couple of days! As soon as you go outside though the heat really hits you!

Unrelated perhaps but have considered getting your hair thinned? I have the same issue so I get it thinned alongside being cut.

Yesterday we had the ice cream van near work and I availed of it, should have seen the jealous stare from colleagues

I worked in catering throughout my teenage years, in all black and I refused to wear short sleeved shirts. I still don't wear short sleeved shirts where I am now, much prefer long sleeves and prevents sunburn anyway.


Gone 11pm here in Bangkok and my 16 inch fan is on full still, and will remain so until I go to bed. Usually knocked down to the lowest setting at that point as it then it gets too cold. I sleep with a thin silk sheet, perfectly fine.

Glad to see most people are able to cope. The good old Daily Mail makes it sound like an apocalypse in England...

It's not quite as warm up here, but I'm glad I'm not at work this week anyway. As nice as it'd be to walk to work in good weather, I work in a sweatbox at the best of times and I can't imagine that it'll be comfortable working environment at the moment.

My solution to this is fortnightly number 1 hair cuts.

How do I survive? outdoor swimming pool Can't use it when i'm working though but still a good job perk.

Caravans get VERY hot and it can be near impossible to work in them. Not much you can do and you have to just put up with it.

I recall when our school IT labs used to get that warm - the joys of there being a legal minimum temperature, not not a legal maximum!

Depends on the type of train. But generally there is only a limited amount that the staff can do to alter the temperature.

I was on my 13 hour day Wednesday at the shop. Home Shop picking on chilled was great, but doing the 12-6 warehouse shift after was a nightmare!

Bloody hot, ended up putting a plastic cover over the seat in the forklift when I wasn't using it just to save my rear end getting burnt on a hot seat

I ended up going in the freezer backup now and again (at -28) just to cool off!
