Doing a day trip to Copenhagen, and as SWeden is just across the water have decided to do a quite train ride to Malmo ( sort of Dover-Calais to tick France off)
Found a nice site that gives a blow by blow account of getting the ticket in CPH arrivals, but my questions are

1) Can we get a return and if so can we break the return journey in Copehagen, and then carry on to the airport after a few hours

2) the website appears to suggest that getting a -Oresund Family ticket' will save a few pounds ( do we need to have kids with us?)

Would be need to get three tickets CPH Airport-Malmo, Malmo=Copenhagen centre, Copenhagen Centre-CPH airport
Just two over 60's travelling
Any comments welcomed

Not an expert, but the Duo/Family ticket:
1. is OK without a child
2. is a discounted price on all Skanetrafiken routes, not obvious that there is a return fare, and doesn't seem to apply to the final Copenhagen-CPH leg.

An Oeresund Rundt ticket might cover you but you are supposed to do one way via the Helsingor (Elsinore!) Ferry, which you might not have time for....

The order of stations is Copenhagen Main Station (Koebenhavn H) > CPH Airport > (bridge , DK/SE border) > (Hyllie) > (Triangeln) > Malmö Central.

Therefore you can't "break the journey" in Copenhagen as you'd pass the airport on the way to the city, rather than "carrying on" to the airport later. So yes, you would need to get the 3 tickets you said.

The price from Malmö to/from CPH Airport and Copenhagen Central is the same; a return is the price of two singles. However, it's 89 DKK or 111 SEK each way depending on which country you purchase from. Due to the recent fall of SEK, 111 SEK is now only 78 DKK.

I don't know much about the Family ticket but I believe you can only get it at the ticket office, which you'd have to do in Denmark. However, you can buy both directions online at http://oresundstag.se/ paying in Sweden which might work out cheaper than a discounted Danish ticket. (You can also buy both directions at the Danish ticket machines, but AFAIK in Malmö you can't buy a ticket starting in Denmark from the machines.)

Not sure about senior discounts; but at least on these trains in Denmark a child is under 16 and in Sweden under 19. Saw a 17-year-old getting fined for using a child ticket on the Danish section even though she was continuing to Lund.

The problem is that this ticket can only be purchased at the Copenhagen Visitor Centre in the city, requiring additional cost and time to get there in the first place. Also I believe it is 249 DKK and 299 SEK, so significantly more expensive in Denmark. It can be bought in many places in Malmö but then you need to cross the bridge first. If buying online, I believe it needs to be posted, but not sure - if it could be delivered to a mobile device that would be great.

I bought the Oresund Family ticket in February from the ticket machines at the main station in Copenhagen; they had the same machines at the Airport so I can’t see why this shouldn’t be possible. The ticket is fine for two adults with no children.

Just to confirm what Paddington has said, three tickets are best. There are no return tickets. But DK and SE operate a zonal ticket policy, ie. you can go anywhere within the zones you have bought within the respective time limit. So, depending on how long you stop off at Kastrup you may be able to do the Kobenhavn H to Malmo C bit on one ticket. It is very unlikely you will be checked from Kobenhavn H to Kastrup, but most tickets are clipped on the route from there to Sweden. The Oresund Rundt ticket is only if you are doing the kilometres and want to use the ferry link between Helsingor and Helsinborg either out or back, so is not useful for your itineary. Try looking at the skanetrafiken.se website.
