Contactless, travelcards or tickets

I got useful advice about travelling around London last time I posted so I wondered if anyone has a creative solution for this:

On Sat 18/1 I want to travel from Oxford to Hatfield. Then I will go (via a lift) to St Albans. Then I want to go St Albans to zone 1, then after a break back to Oxford.

Is my best bet an oxford to z1-6 travel card plus z6 fares to Hatfield and from St Albans? Oxford to zone 1 or Finsbury Park return then contactless? Any other combination?

Is this just one stop in Zone 1, or will you be travelling around?

One stop, and then to Paddington or Marylebone.

On the 18th January it seems there are no trains to Hatfield, with journey planners suggesting replacement buses between St Albans and Hatfield or Cockfosters and Hatfield. This would suggest that your ticketing requirements can be simplified. Trainsplit suggests that Day Returns from Oxford to Reading and Reading to Hatfield would do the job, although you would need to pay for one zone 1 journey by Contactless or Oyster - this would result in a total of £46.80.
