Love Contactless. Makes everything so so easy though the Wetherspoon ones do tend to be temperamental.

Does this mean 'touching in and out' with a 'wave pay' type card - which is being rolled out by LU soon, in which case it will likely happen generally within the fare zones in due course. The 2017 introduction might have been planned as a part of the zonal fares system already.
Or is it just buying normal tickets with a 'wave pay' card, which SWT do at the windows now anyway?
Whatever, the idea of contactless payment isn't going to work for fares generally because of the £20.00 limit. It isn't possible to work for long distance fares AFAICT; so how does the TOC ensure that people travelling further than their own small network are actually aware of this?

Presumably it will be for the on train staff to avoid a card payment for a short journey being a ten minute job. Depending on the service I bet most on train payments are probably short distance since most longer journies run from staffed stations.
They've got an ITSO based ticket system that launched in phase 1 earlier this month, covers Shoeburness to Tilbury Town and West Hornden. Phase 2 (rest of network) launches in October. Remember that c2c have a simple network with only walk-up fares.

Northern already use contacless at ticket offices, I was able to use it at Manchester Victoria last month.
East Midlands Trains do too - at ticket offices only.
This is interesting. c2c sent out a survey some time ago on this topic - the wording seemed to imply that, should such a scheme be introduced, they were considering making (off peak) single journeys half the price of returns, instead of, as at present, mostly 10p cheaper.
I read it as ITSO "from day one" with contactless debit/credit card acceptance "from 2017".
Yes, ITSO from day 1 but only as a means of storing tickets. There won't be any PAYG functionality on the ITSO smartcards initially. PAYG may extend to contactless debit/credit card but as has been pointed out there are issues with some fares being more than the payment limit which would need resolving.
Metro hope their ITSO 'pay as you go' smartcards will be ready for August but I'm struggling to see how they will, I'd have expected an announcement with a date by now considering it's July tomorrow.
I have an annual Corporate bus only Metrocard which works excellently on all companies ticket machines aside from First, where 6 times out of 10 it doesn't work!!
Put back to next year I understand.
