it's quite different to the LM version. On the LM version, the yellow stops short of the cab door with a curve, and doesn't extend all the way down. On these, it is yellow from solebar-to-roof, all the way back to the edge of the cab door.

Thought that was because they had grey stuck over the top of the edge of the yellow?

Although you say 'really, really different,' I imagine that if you peeled off the green vinyls it would be the same. This means that after TPE deliveries finish and the LM ones start, all LM will have to do is stick the vinlys on!

The 450s were delivered first 2002-2006 with the 350/1s delivered in 2004-2005, the numbers on the 350/0s also followed on from the 450 numbers.

The 350/0 were the first built Desiro with one used as a test unit for Northam depot prior to the arrival of the 450s so my comment stands.

Don't forget the 350/0 were built when the 450 order was under construction and most of them never made it to the UK.

Saw it earlier today at Carnforth in one of the loops. Have to say it does look smart although odd seeing 350s so far north :p

Heading back to Preston Via the Chatmoss very shortly

http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/N26833/2013/12/09/advanced

Thanks to Manchester 77 for the heads up via SSC

There are some photos of the run on the Network Rail press release page at http://www.networkrailmediacentre.c...phase-of-North-West-electrification-1f44.aspx

There should be a daytime run on Thursday.

Are there any electric TPE trains now running Manchester - Scotland; I've seen nothing on the TPE website or on their facebook page either.

You would have thought if there were shiny new trains running they would have made a bit of a fuss. Does anyone know either way - and if the answer's the trains aren't electric yet, when will they be, what are they using right now and what's filling in the gaps elsewhere where these trains should be being used??

THANKS TO THE LINKS ABOVE I've found the answer > First TransPennine Express will start running direct electric services using 10 new Siemens-built Class 350/4 from Manchester Airport to Glasgow from the 30th December. These new trains will deliver an increase in capacity of more than 80 per cent on this route. The new 100mph, Class 350/4 trains will each have four carriages and a total of 210 seats, 19 of which will be first class.

As that leaves just under a month, then there must be units running Manny Airport- Scotland now which should be being used elsewhere, or are there some gaps in the timetables which will be filled in by February?

Anyway, looking forward to my wee trip Preston/Glasgow next month, should be on a new train but knowing my luck, it will be half way by pacer and the rest by replacement bus :(

The units that ran the Scotland services via Bolton are now just running Scotland services via Wigan. These units will be used for strengthening gradually as they introduce EMUs till May 2014 when they use the spare units for a 5th service across the Pennines.

Sorry in advance if this has been posted earlier, I can't check as I'm on my phone.

Apparently, on tests the 350 hit the platform at Lockerbie when it's doors opened. I'm not sure how true this is, as it's just what I've heard from a friend.

heard nout this end and keeping my ear pritty near the ground where these units go. That said I wasnt aware one had made it north of Carlisle yet? Makes sense though as the depot will need familierisation with them as will Scottish crews.↲

Possible, but I would be surprised since both 185s (current service) and 350s are Siemens Desiros and I would have expected them to be sufficiently similar.

Apologies if I have missed this, but when is the final date when the tenth and final unit of the First TPE order is expected to be in their possession ?

What been said is that there would be a couple of months gap from the 2nd/3rd unit delivery and the 4th units, with them arriving roughly every to weeks.

185 vehicles are 23m long, vs 20m for the 350s, and noticeably narrower to compensate for that on corners.

The 350/1s were modified 450s. The 450s were designed to be used on commuter services and fitted with 3+2 seating. 3+2 seating requires a slightly wider carriage.

The 185s were designed for regional routes with 2+2 seating so the carriages could be longer and narrower.

Very few trains have 23-24m carriages and are wide enough to allow for 3+2 seating. The exceptions are 323s (special design) and 165s and 166s (which aren't cleared for much of the National Rail network.)

Hi.

Here's some photos of TPE 350401 on the Up Chat Moss line through Patricroft with a VIP special from Preston to Manchester Oxford Road.

A little bit of history in the making.
The worlds oldest passenger railway (part of) has caught up with the 21st Century!

Sorry about the quality! :(
