I am making a journey soon from London Kings Cross to Lincoln. The journey involves changing at Newark Northgate and catching a train from Newark Castle to Lincoln to avoid a long wait at Newark Northgate.

Can anyone advise how far it is between stations at Newark? Directions if is it walkable etc.

Thanks.

I've done the walking connection on a journey from the East Midlands to Scotland (opposite direction from what you seem to be doing)... Easily walkable, signposted and takes around 10-15 minutes depending on how fast you walk.

It's about 1km away. I'd allow 20 mins walking as it's not really a direct route - Google maps shows both stations.

Yes, 10min is optimistic unless you're a candidate for the Olympics. There's a scenic route by the river but I wouldn't recommend it after dark or with not enough time to get slightly lost.

Good advice, keep it simple unless you want the sightseeing tour!
Also, access to the Lincoln platform is via the level crossing, no footbridge at Newark Castle :'(.

20-25 minute walk...

And DEFINITELY don't go the river way if it's dark..

From memory:-

Exit Northgate station and turn RIGHT onto Lincoln Street, then at the end, bear LEFT onto North Gate
Follow this road until you come to the Zebra Crossing (near an antiques shop, IIRC)
Cross the Zebra crossing, turn left and follow the road around the corner (you will cross the River Trent)
Should be a building with arches in front of you.
Follow this road around the corner
You should see a Level Crossing in front of you - Newark Castle is to the right of this..

If you ask at Newark travel centre, they will give you a small map, easily showing the way between the 2 stations.

If you have the time a short detour via the parish church (you cannot miss the spire) and the market square takes you through a pleasant town centre.

Just walked it in 10 minutes (Castle to Northgate), thanks everyone. Not bad for a shorta*se like me with knee trouble!

Managed to arrive at Northgate just in time to see a Class 91 southbound light engine blunt end leading as well.
