Connection at Plymouth

Trying to plan a 3/7 Freedom of the South West in high summer with varying levels of success owing to the sparsity and randomness of services down there. A quick question for any locals around there - are connections held for the Gunnislake branch or not at Plymouth? I'm looking at arriving at 1451 on 1254 Penzance-Newton Abbot, and the next Gunnislake leaves at 1454. Obviously this is nowhere near an official connection however I was wondering is there any chance it would be held for any amount of times if the 1451 (or even 1443 ex-Edinburgh) was late running?

The 1254 from Penzance arrives into platform 8 at Plymouth normally. The Gunnislake goes from Platform 3 normally. The 1254 has 17 minutes wait at Plymouth, which from last summer was used as padding, and it was typically 10 minutes late.

The Traveline SW website throws up a frequent bus service from Saltash Fore St (4 mins walk from Saltash station) to St Paul's Church (2 mins from St Budeaux Vic Road) which shd allow you to make the connection.
