Confusion at Aberdeen tonight?

I hear - from someone on the train - that the 18:18 Aberdeen to Leeds was delayed 77 minutes at Aberdeen ... because someone forgot to bring it out from the depot. It was apparently a good half hour before senior station staff realized that passengers were still waiting for the train to appear

I very much doubt someone would have forgot to bring it out of the depot.

Did the driver walk to the platforms in Aberdeen look round and discover they forgot to brings the train with them?

Sounds like "maybe someone forgot to bring the train round?" is the sort of jokey comment station staff might make whilst wondering where the stock was and not having been told the real reason.

To be fair, it can happen. If a job is covered last minute or split up between spare drivers, given to another depot to cross-cover etc, those making up the diagrams have been known to omit important details such as bringing one out to the platform.

I've been given a job before where my cobbled-together diagram says I take a train over in the platform only for there to be no train, nobody claiming any knowledge of it's whereabouts and a long delay before someone discovered it was sitting in the siding, telling me this information and asking me if I wouldn't mind walking down and bringing it out. The idea of it not being brought out into the platform because it wasn't on anyone's diagram is not far fetched.

I wonder if someone did jokingly say something like this, and then the power of social media took over? I can remember a bit back a train I was waiting for was delayed & I (as a passenger mind) jokingly mused that it might be because of the wrong type of rain. To my surprise when it did arrive and I was browsing Twitter, lo & behold there was someone complaining to Northern about their trains not being able to cope with different types of rain!!

The first rule of the internet is that if its on the internet it must be true!

The truth is never as much fun as uninformed rumour and conjecture! As if someone would forget to move a train from the depot!
