Hi, I was travelling on west midlands railway station, My partner books my tickets for me and he added a railcard for me, He said I could use his and I didn't know I couldn't. The person scanning the tickets stopped me and then he sat with me and recorded me. he then gave me a little ticket which gave me inspector number and the slip entitles me to complete my journey. He took my address and name and checked my ID. he later said that I'd be getting a post. However I have no clue what's going on, or what will happen. My address is my university address and I'm hoping they don't send it to the wrong place. Is there anyway I can contact them as I've tried emailing, calling and much more and I am seriously confused on what will happen. If they want me to pay a fine or settle it, I'm more than happy to. Thanks
@pqeahh. Welcome to the forum. Sounds as if the Revenue Protection person may have been considering referring you for further investigation, so it can be ascertained if there are other possible instances of inappropriate railcard discounts being claimed. Can you upload a copy of whatever you were issued with? Please be sure to cover up any name, address or ID number.
Guidance for those asking for advice: Please bear in mind the following, when asking for advice in this section: We need to know all relevant facts in order to assist you, including, for example: The stations* where you actually started & finished your journey The stations* where you changed...
Now, I'd have thought your partner WOULD know that no other person could use a Railcard that has a different identity on.. But the downside of this is the train operator will probably ask for someone to prove who used the tickets with the Railcard discount applied. Was it the Railcard holder or you?

It’s important you keep that slip you were given safe. Make a copy of it both sides eg a photo.
Unfortunately this isn’t a situation like penalty Fare like you see on the posters at railway stations with a penalty if £100.
They are almost certainly going to write hard copy or e mail to you asking if you had a valid railcard and if not they will be threatening you with prosecution because your train ticket was not valid which is an offence in England.
But with help and advice from here it’s usually possible to minimise this.
It’s vital you receive correspondence from them and reply to it with help from here. So watch your post e mail and spam. It could be a few weeks before they write so you need to find out what happens to your post in your student hall.
They took your details because they want the back office to check for any other evidence of tickets you might have bought with a railcard discount when you do not have a railcard. They will want you to pay for new tickets for any such train trips. Do you think they might find any records of that?
But ask as many questions as you like because it’s important you understand the process from now and people here will be happy to help you by answering.

If your partner has been regularly booking tickets for you with a Railcard discount applied but you do not have a Railcard, and this is a deliberate attempt to save the cost of a £35 railcard you both need to stop doing this.
You also would be well advised to buy yourself a Railcard asap.
Using tickets that are not valid is a criminal offence. This may have been explained when you were stopped.

Yes. It should be possible to settle with them but you will have to wait for them to contact you first. Then with advice from here you can send a suitable reply to them to achieve the best outcome you can.
It may be a few weeks before they contact you. Keep an eye on post and e mail including spam.
We are aware of an issue with emails from the Forum to Microsoft-based email accounts (hotmail/outlook/live.com email addresses). This is being looked into currently, thanks for your patience meanwhile.
