Hi all,

Anyone else thrown their names in the hat for this opportunity?

Is it an application form you fill in after sending in your CV?

Doing my application form this afternoon. 22 questions, very similar to previous Acorn recruitments.

If we have applied recently (like last week) and some people have already had there mini-scaats does this mean we’ve left it too late?

No I think that more people have probably applied so it may be taking longer because of the amount of people that have applied to review and see who is going through to the mini-scaat.

That’s a relief! My heart sunk a bit when I read the recent posts. Have you had yours yet?

I spent about 4 hours on the application so keeping my fingers crossed.

Did my SCAAT verification test today, no surprises, it was pretty much as expected in terms of content/format. Genuinely no idea how I did, got through over half the page each time, just have to see how accurate I was. They said they would be in touch by the middle of next week.

They did say that the next stage - i.e. manager's interviews - would be conducted over Zoom.

Symbols. I would say that the best practice you can do is the SCAAT tests generated by the Bourdon tool here on these forums. The style of test and the symbols used were very similar. That said, they might change it all the time as well, so don't take anything for granted.

Thanks for that! I know you asked that question a few times but never got a full answer so appreciate that.

That’s the one I’ve been practicing on.

Was it in Chester you got tested?

Yes, they did it in the Queen's Hotel, opposite the station. Two members of the TFW HR team, both really friendly and accommodating, really doing their best to put everyone at ease.

Hi Guys

I have recently completed and passed the application and short SCAAT test for the role of conductor (Chester). I am waiting for the verification stage. The company is Transport for Wales. I have focused on the OPC material to improve my speed and accuracy. Please can you give any ideas of what to expect on the day of testing.

Thanks a million!

Hi Andrew.

Beyond my comments above, I'm not sure what else I can add. What else would you like to know?

Just found out I passed my SCAAT verification. Well pleased, I thought it might be touch and go.

Brilliant that mate, well done! Great news.

I still haven’t heard a peep yet.....slightly worrying.

I wouldn't worry too much, I bet they're dealing with this first wave of applicants before starting again with subsequent applications. I'm a firm believer in "no news is good news" here, they seem to be pretty quick at telling unsuccessful applicants as soon as they have fallen short. I certainly got my knockback email for the train driver job pretty quick!

Online interview booked in. No details about the content, only that it's a set of competency based questions, and should take about an hour.

I'm in the talent pool! I can't believe it, I'm absolutely chuffed! Thank you so much to everyone who's offered help or guidance in these forums, I really do appreciate it.

This is based on me passing the medical, of course....

Brilliant! Well done!

I’ve been sent the mini scaat today so got through the paper sift! Well happy with just that.

Any more advice going forward?
